My Tip for Getting for Focused

I've been dabbling in IM for 3 or 4 years now. One of my problems with success has been trying every "new" method that comes along and not focusing on one strategy. I'm sure you can imagine in 3 or 4 years how many lists I'm on. I literally get probably 100 emails a day from different lists.

A few weeks ago I sat down and unsubscribed to almost every list (except for a few). You wouldn't believe the difference in both my bank accont :-) and my productivity. I encourage you, as the end of the year draws near and we prepare for next year, to do the same. I think you will find that this will not only increase your productivity but it will also keep you more focused.

Wishing you and yours a blessed holiday season!

Great point! The temptation of "not missing anything" is built more to destruct, rather than to instruct. There will always be the "new technique" and approach to things, but the ability to stay longer at a proven method over long period of time is key to productivity and success.

I do find that I am continually learning something new in this business. I download reports online and put them in labeled file folders (adsense, affililiate marketing, google etc.) and once a week pick something new to read/watch. Just one little tip can help expand my business.

The last report I read was a WSO of the day on starting an ecommerce business. Even though, I will probably never start one, there were some really rich tips in the report that got me thinking. Right now I am reading one where the author analyzed a couple of websites. It made me rethink my approach to a site I had in the same niche, as I read the report I am making some subtle changes. I have already increased my income from these minor tweaks and haven't finished the report yet!

I agree that focus is important but continuing to learn is essential especially with how quickly things change. It is just a matter of being smart about who/what you opt to learn from. And being smart about implementing new techniques that will help grow your business and are not just pie in the sky methods.

        You've said valid points.

On one hand, you need to accept the necessity of lifelong learning. Everything is changing around you and you need to keep pace. And what you learned today, you can apply in your business. As your example shows. (Anyway, WF is a good place to learn.)

But, on the other hand, although you can broaden your vision (and that is nice), but you need to narrow your focus, simultaneously. Many beginner businessman committed mistakes in this stage (hehe - as myself, decades ago). To find your balance between catching every new things and focus on your present daily duties - this may be such kind of problem that many people cannot solve.

Your well grounded business plan can be your guide in this battle. You need to set goals, need to arrange them in order, schedule your daily work accordingly and stick to that. Of course, unexpected things may occur. Despite, don't let your agenda treats you, but you manage that. The important thing is the daily task needs to be done always.

        Many successes,

        Sandor

Focusing on one thing until you get it right is important. However, if you're doing stuff like product development, etc, unsubscribing from your competitor's lists might not be a great idea. You need to keep your finger on the pulse, so to speak.

I am confuse about the "strategy"
Are article marketing and list building two different strategies?

That is a good strategy if you are easily distracted by all the emails. I subscribe to very few marketers these days, it is a lot less clutter and distraction. One good thing about all the emails is that you can learn a lot from some of them. The way that some craft their emails is worth studying. I usually save a lot of emails just for that purpose.

The temptation to jump on board the next big thing is terrible especially for newbies. When the gurus or whatever they like to call themselves come calling, with their epc counts, the potential to give up on what you are doing is ridiculous.

Also, I have found being on too many lists can be counter productive to focusing on what you are trying to achieve, so well done, and I hope your business goes from strength to strength.

There's another active thread right now about overcoming laziness. The answer is simple. Find your passion and build your business around it. It's a lot easier to focus and be productive when you're working on something you love.

You can listen to all the motivational audios in the world. You can read all the self help books ever published You can make all the lists you want. You can employ every productivity strategy there is. But if you don't enjoy what you're doing you'll eventually stall.

Thanks for the responses. And you are exactly correct, this is a fluid business, always changing. With that in mind, I've narrowed my focus on what seems to work for me and I've kept those with similar strategies on my list. And, of course, I'm always trolling through the WSO section. But, again, in 2011 I'm going to limit myself to buying only one WSO per month and implementing that to enhance what I'm already doing.

Again, just my strategy that I wanted to share as "food for thought"!

That is a great tip. I have unsubscribed from those lists that plug you something it seems about every 8 seconds

I also wrote a post a few day ago on how I use a specific 60 Second Rule, to help me stay focused and to TAKE ACTION. ==> http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ng-action.html

Taking action is the way to win this game. The more action you take, the more profits you will see come to your bank account. Funny thing that ey?

I did the same thing about a week ago. It really does help. I noticed that it helped keep my money in my bank as well. I only buy products that I can use to furthur my existing business and never buy anything anymore that would cause me to start something new.

Focus is essential if you ever want to stop "spinning your wheels" in the mud and actually get somewhere.

"TAKE ACTION" is the first thing everyone tells you and then they leave it at that. I'll add a second part: TRACK EVERYTHING" - It's the only way to ensure your ACTION leads to results.
