Best practice to improve email delivery rate...

I'll not be using an Autoresponder as I have an online shopping cart system hosted on my domain name.

As such, I'll be following up with my clients using my personal system. To do that well I may need to ensure that my email delivery is good and not blocked by major email providers.

What will be the best practice to ensure a good delivery? I guess the first thing to do is to have it's own IP address right?

Get a spam score checking tool. Analyze every email using it before sending it to your customers. If it gives green signal then your email will not land in spam folder if it gives red signal then modify your emails.

I get some great results after I start all my messages starting with "You are receiving this messages because you subscribe to my list on domain.com if you doesn't want to receive more messages, please don't mark as spam just go to the bottom and unsubscribe"

My complain rates drop dramatically, some people unsubscribe but almost all of them are not buyers, people who opt in and then forgot they do it.

These method alone increase the quality of the list, the open rate and the conversions.

So has anyone has been successful in sending emails out from their own mail server?

Yes I do. I use my own script and send mail from my dedicated server.

If you're going to be sending e-mails from your own server
then you need to make sure that you follow good e-mail
    sending practises.

Yes - it's a good idea to have your own IP address for your
e-mail sending server so get a VPS or Dedicated Server.

I'd also recommend that you use proper e-mail marketing
software that will allow you to effectively manage the
various issues that arise for a self-hosted autoresponder
(e.g. bounces, unsubscribes, spam complaints, etc.).

You'll also need to set-up your server so that it can send
mass e-mails so things like SPF records, DKIM, creating
feedback loops with ESPs and the like need to be organized
    too.

Thanks for the advice. Now, what would be a good email marketing software that can help me out?

And, I'll be mailing from my system (eg. xyz.com) but in the header I will have abc.com domain name as the sender.

      Will that be an issue?

Aweber has a good spam checker. I've read many testimonials that Aweber is great because of the delivery rate they produce.
