Is it bad to submit the same press release to more than one PR site?

Hi, there,

Just getting started to promoting my product, but I don't know if submitting the same press release to more than one PR site will be damaging or helpful.

Right now I can only "afford" the free ones, but hopefully later the more popular paid ones will be an option. Same question goes, though.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks so much,

- Paul

It won't hurt you. PRs to free sites aren't usually worth much in the first place so the more the better. If you can relate your product or service to anything in the news consider submitting press releases along with media kits to print publications, radio and TV. You might be surprised at who picks them up. Be sure to have professional material though. Good luck.

How could it possibly hurt you? Remember, the goal of a press release is to get it seen by as many people (on as many different websites) as possible. By submitting it to a few different places, you're not going to hurt yourself. Instead, your increasing your chances that it will get picked up, since different PR websites submit their releases to different feeds.

Don't worry about "only" being able to afford the free PR sites. I've seen alot of success with free submissions over at PRLog. But, like Travlinguy said, you'll need professional stuff. Otherwise, your press release will just collect dust - whether you paid to submit it or not

I do not really agree. If you do link building via PR you should consider spinning your press release.

Why??? Spinning anything is a complete waste of time, but it's an even bigger waste of time for press releases. The facts are what they are; spinning isn't going to change what makes your press release newsworthy.

The goal of a press release is to get it syndicated by as many websites as possible. There's no need to change one word of it. The press release submission websites themselves are going to submit it (un-spun) to 1,000's of different outlets and feeds. The websites that decide to pick it up aren't going to rewrite one word of your press release before they publish it. Instead, they're going to run it as-is - and there's no SEO "punishment" that's going to occur as a result.

"Helpful" rather than "damaging" anyway, Paul.

    There's certainly no downside.

    I hope you're joking, Steven?!

You're surely not asking anyone to believe that the value of a backlink is somehow going to be improved by the content to which it's attached being spun?!

Press Releases are not predominantly about backlinks, anyway. They're about the relevance and quality of their content. "Spun" ones are very unlikely to be syndicated anywhere useful, and in any case would confer no more value than an "unpsun" one!

Why in the world would you want to spin a press release?
