Hey guys, I am thinking to create a blog site where people can submit their own blog articles. What are some things I can do to ensure the site is successful and gets a lot of traffic?

    Hi,

People are always happy to have a place to submit their content in exchange for a backlink.

What do you have to offer, what would be the advantage of submitting an article on your site and, what kind of traffic are you trying to get?

Look at it from the site visitor's point of view.

        1. Create a professional looking layout so that any traffic that comes in actually stays around a bit to read. Most article directories fail miserably at this.

        2. Allow contextual links in the actual article (more valuable and therefore more sought after than traditional bio box links).

        3. Make the links do follow.

        4. Give incentives for frequent posts, high quality/high word count articles, etc. Incentives could be in the form of author levels and recognitions, for example, an "expert author" badge, upgraded profiles, ability to include additional links.

        5. Remember to focus on quality or it will not stick around for long.

easiest way to get high page rank is by joining forums that are based on your keywords.

Perhaps build them around very specific niches, and ensure in those niches there's both good audience, and a good amount of existing blogs.

A 'super blog' based on those niche blogs means you get a good constant stream of content.

For example, I'm involved in the radio control car racing hobby niche. I'm looking to build a site that features content from the existing radio control media press sites and make it a one-stop shop for all rc car racing news.

If you want to create a "white lable" website with visitor's blogs you have to create a strong community. Change your niche, write news, articles, reviews and other content that will be useful for users.
And if you want to run an article directory - work at seo-parametres of your website: pr, alexa, get so many backlinks on the website as you can. And don't forget to filter articles in order to place only high-quality content. Google Panda don't sleep

Above all else, hold everyone to a high standard. When you've got a time-crunch and are tempted to accept "anything" just to fill space, don't. It's a slippery slope - you let one less-than-stellar post get published, and then, suddenly, every shoddy blog owner comes looking for a backlink.

One thing I would do to entice people to submit quality posts is to promise each guest author that you'll Tweet and Facebook each new post right after it's published. That way, you'll be giving them some extra promotion that doesn't cost you anything, except for a few minutes of your time. And, in the process, you'll be getting the word out about your site, which will help to drive traffic.

Exactly what she said. Don't allow that spun crap to make it's way onto your website. Perhaps the best thing you could do is hold higher standards than any similar site you have seen previously. Sure it will mean a little more time before you gain traction. I think the simultaneous reputation your site will receive for accepting nothing but the best is well worth it though.

    Hi Jason,
For getting good Pr from the google. You need to develop good and quality back links. Google will update the PR twice or Thrice a year. In that time, Google will check your back links up to that time and it will give you the Pr for your website.
And there are many benefits with Pr. You can also increase your advertising space value.
    I hope this helps you.

mgreener offering great advice there. from a publishers point of view though, we need to know that you'll be promoting your website. no point in posting to a dead zone.

let us know when you're up and running, will be happy to guest post something unique for you.

Blogcritics.org did a thing like that and they are super successful. I think you'll have to start by creating your own content, get a following and then offer other bloggers a chance to guest blog. Once you have the traffic numbers, people will come in.

Stick with good content and as someone said earlier, a niche definitely helps.
