Weird Hosting Problem - Need Your Advice

Guys,

A friend asked me to put his new site online, he seems to use a portuguese company that uses Bluehost. We managed to create the Wordpress install after a kazillion problems..., but now we visit the url provided in Instalatron (or similar name) but the link is a 404.

Obviously the deadurl is site.com/wp-admin.

We also removed the index.html file from root via FTP and site is still alive. We're a bit confused. And to be honest, last year alone we did more then 300 WordPress installs and NEVER had these issues, so it's quite frustrating.

Any ideas???

Thanks for the headsup, but just checked, that's not it. NO Redirects whatsoever.

They use "Installatron" and the WordPress install is there for at least 3 days, including the correct URL's:

      http://www DOT thewebsite DOT com/wp-admin

But it's a dead end: 404 Error File Not Found.

      I am .

Is there a wp-sample.config.php already populated in the root directory prior to installation? I have one hosting company that has one there and if I forget to delete it my site will not show.

It had, deleted the file and no changes.

Thing that bothers me is: I deleted the index.html they had there and site is still live.

Edit: Just checked an image and retrieves a: site.com/img/blue.jpg...

So this is a redirect of some sort - but what? The CPanel has none.

New Edit: Just checked through FTP and server has NO img folder... nowhere in public_html.

If your friend's website is being hosted at BlueHost.com, I am guessing he has access to all of the tools advertised on their website.

I recommend you remove all files pertaining to the website (including any mysql databases and user accounts). Note: you might need to change the file permissions of a few wordpress files in order to delete them.

    Then, follow this:
    https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/wordpress

Or, just let BlueHost know about your situation. They should be able to assist you.

      Hi Titan,

They are hosted with a portuguese company that uses Bluehost as a reseller. So no that easy.

This issue is most definitely a miss configuration somewhere. We'll have to recheck everything - exactly what we're starting now.

Thanks guys, hope to solve this soon.

I guess you've done the obvious and checked that the nameservers are actually pointing to the correct server at bluehost. It almost sounds as if the content you are seeing (if you can see anything) is hosted elsewhere as deleting the index.php file has no effect.

Does your friend have two accounts? Are you using the nameservers from another account that you/he/a client own?

We have a winner Good mornin Rose.

My friend asked someone to configure the DNS and all, and the guy forgot to change/edit the DNS pointing them to new hosting package - but he's the same guy that bought the NEW hosting, so he knows pretty well it's a different company.

Leason learned after all these years: never trust what people tell you - recheck for yourself.

      LMAO...
