Do Any Professional Bloggers Use Google Blogger?

Or do all the pros use wordpress?

Personally I use blogger, always have.

Ive also used wordpress two times and can totally understand why people would use it. And just for the nit picky warriors that will wonder "what does he mean by professional?". What I mean is if you blog using a blogging platform regularly and get paid for it regularly.

I can't say with any certainty who is and who isn't a professional blogspot blogger, however I have seen some blogspot blogs with very high PR and traffic.

      Interesting question!

Like nm5419, I have seen some very impressive blogger blogs in terms of SE rankings, PR etc - but my suspicion is that most pro bloggers would want something self-hosted like WordPress. It's important to have full ownership and control over your online assets.

I remember watching in horror as a friend of mine walked away from a PR 7 Blogger blog when he realized he wanted something using an actual domain name etc etc (although, you can use domain names with blogger now right?). He wasn't all that well-versed in IM, but regardless, that blog was never really HIS.

      Just my 2 cents

Are you sure that the PR and traffic you're seeing is not the aggregate PR and traffic for ALL of blogspot, not just the blog you're viewing?

I, personally, would never use any solution for professional-grade blogging other than a self-hosted WordPress installation (not WordPress.com).

I'd also be reluctant to take seriously as a professional anybody blogging on blogspot...but that's just me...I feel like if a blogger doesn't have the dedication to their site, their content, and their personal brand to get their own domain and do the work it takes to set up their own site, their content appears less valuable to the reader.

Then you're making a mistake. There are lots of blogspot.com blogs out there that get way more traffic than most self-hosted wordpress blogs. To name just one:

        A Newbie's Guide to Publishing

That blog has a PR of 6 and gets over 1 million visitors per year. You'll notice though, that blog has been around since 2005, so this didn't happen overnight. It also disproves that blogger is an unreliable host that randomly deletes blogs for no reason.

IMHO, you only need to worry about that if you're doing affiliate marketing or blogging about internet marketing.

Blogspot PR and traffic aren't 'aggregated.'

I remember a few years back that the highest visited blog was a blogspot blog, and it was simple (even then for blogspot standards). It was about current music industry news. It dominated. It might still. Regardless, it's nice to host your own blog via Wordpress, but the majority of my blogs are blogspot blogs personally. That's because they are old ones that I honestly had no reason to transfer over.

There are a lot of professional blogs hosted on blogger, but I'm not personally no professional blogger.

It's an OK platform, but you have to do some major tweaks to get started, especially for SEO benefits.

Just so you know, some people regard even WordPress blogs with the same attitude, and then snub their bloggers for not personally programming their own CMS. But those people are usually C++ geeks (the know it alls!).

I have read so many good reviews about WordPress that I would not use anything else for blogging. I use it myself and I can highly recommend it.

I use both. Google blogger obviously has its advantages, but wordpress is easier to customize to your specific needs. Overall both are great platforms in my opinion.

There are many benefits of using a wordpress blog and there are also benefits of using a self-hosted blog.

With blogs like wordpress and hubpages, you can post blogs and start to see traffic relatively soon. However, with a self hosted blog, it will take more time and determination to get ranking and visitors.

If you are thinking long term, self host is definitely the better alternative. It gives you more credibility as well as functionality and less user restrictions.

    Not really; no.

Because "professional" bloggers are the ones likely to read the terms of service, to be aware of Blogger's idiosyncratic and inconsistent interpretations of them, to understand all the problems discussed by so many marketers in all the threads like this one and this one, and so on, and to appreciate that (especially these days) Blogger actually gives them nothing at all that they can't get more safely, more reliably, more securely, more sensibly and just as free-of-charge elsewhere.

So "professional" and "using Blogger" are something of a contradiction in terms, really.

No ... it could, but unfortunately that facility was withdrawn a year or so ago, and Blogger no longer supports FTP now.

That's what the turkey said on days 995, 996, 997, 998 and 999 of its 1,000-day life. It didn't know any different/better, and it was unwilling to invest half an hour of its life in reading this thread and this one, because it knew, really, that those threads would make it feel pretty uncomfortable; and besides - however many of them there are, those are all "other people, not me", aren't they?!

I've heard of several professional bloggers using blogspot before. I also heard
that some of them got their blogs shutdown. Particularly some who are in the
    make money online niche.

Like everything in life, if we put everything in one basket which isn't even ours
we might get disappointed if it's suddenly taken away.

So yes, before there were professional bloggers using their platform and I assume
there are still a lot now. You can visit this page : Blogs of Note to
see some of the outstanding blogs in blogger.
