How to market a website trying to force Conan O Brien to flash America?

Ok, so heres the deal...my co-workers and I created a website to raise money for breast cancer research because one of our co-workers was recently diagnosed. We wanted to show our support but didnt want to ask people for money.

The goal of the fundraiser is to get, The Conan O Brien, to flash America to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. We can essentially force him to flash us by making him a deal. The deal is if the fundraiser raises $50k, then he will choose which nonprofit organization will be the recipient of the $50k. The way the fundraiser raises money is by having users simply sign up at a Corporate Sponsor's website (swagbucks). For every user that signs up with the Corporate Sponsor, $1 will be donated, hence 50k users = $50k. In addition, each user that signs up will have their facebook profile pic added to a book that will be delivered directly to Conan.

I was hoping to get some great ideas on how to get others to join? All crazy ideas are welcome

    I would say get a good press release campaign going. There's also a great WSO on here using press releases to get coverage on TV. That could possibly get Coco's attention!

    The idea seems a bit far fetched but it could work.

    Here is how I would approach the situation:

    First, make sure your website is always number one in the search engines for anything related to "Conan" and "Flashing" together. Start performing search engine optimization for your website for all sorts of keywords revolving around the idea of Conan flashing people for breast cancer awareness. This is not going to take a lot of work. I would imagine the Conan flashing niche is pretty easy to get into at the moment.

    Next, focus on going viral on the internet. Your key to success is getting the public to make a big deal out of this.

    Go to Conan's twitter page and extract a list of all of his friends. Then add them. Just by adding them, they will review your account and, some, will become interested. They are already fans of Conan so they will want to know more after you request to be their friends. The people interested in your idea will add you to their twitter account and follow you.

    Rinse and repeat with Facebook.

    Note: You working on this alone might not be enough to cover all of Conan's followers in a reasonable time frame. Maybe some help from co-workers or volunteers will speed the process along. Or better yet, find a software that helps send friend requests to people on Twitter and Facebook. Do not abuse this. Go by Twitter's & Facebook's TOS. The last thing you want is to have your account banned.

    Alongside your twitter campaign, you should work on making a list of all of the news websites (including and especially celebrity news websites). Make a list and contact them individually with a formal email (make it personal / do not use a cookie cutter email).

    Finally, the big dogs, the local news channels in Los Angeles. You need to get your story into the news channels there. I would imagine it is very hard to do. I have never done this before. However, if you create enough buzz, the news may, on their own, talk about it.

    P.S. When you have 10-20,000 followers, contact Conan and hope you don't get hit with a trademark lawsuit by the company that runs the Conan brand...

        If you want to develop and submit a press release yourself, here are a few things I recommend:

        Look for editors and reporters who have talked about the same niche (Conan). It is more likely that you will get their attention.

        When you approach these people, keep things simple and straight to the point.

        When you are making your list of people that you want to contact for a possible press release, make sure you do not contact multiple people in the same news channel.

        Don't worry if you don't get a response your first try. Eventually a few editors/reporters will bite.

        Considering your website and it's approach I think you will see much more success than most when you are trying to spread the word.

        Like I said above, looking for editors and reporters that have talked about your niche before is the best way to go.

        You can go with a company that can handle your press release but any legitimate company that will be able to submit your pr to credible news channels will charge a hefty penny.

        If you want a list of press release websites, you can go here. The better approach is to contact the editors and reporters that work for bigger ended news channels. They will get you the most publicity.

        Its better to start here.

      This thread has been bothering me for a couple of days. Just to be clear... are you trying to get Conan to drop his trousers and show the world a personal area of this body? Raising funds for charity is always a good thing but why does it have to involve a celebrity who may not want to embarrass his wife and child by showing a private area of his body in public?

          But if the OP can get him to do it for charity, at least, he will be doing it for a good cause and not just for laughs from the audience.

    I didn't see anyone mention Youtube.

    Put up some videos, maybe with some photo shopped images of Conan flashing. Perhaps some music. Add some text and have a link at the end of the video to your site.

    Just a random idea for one video, "Does Conan have man boobs?!" "What is he hiding?!" "Make him show us and support breast cancer research!" Build it up through the short video and get viewers to want to see his chest.. an idea or something like that, could go really viral.

    Or even make it much more sillier. His audience likes really silly stuff I believe (haven't watched him in a couple of years).

    Heck, you've already got social proof that the viral effect could work. We're already loving the idea. Make yourself a twitter tag, keep it in all of your publicity stuff and on your website. Make a Facebook fanpage. Put some cute pictures (make sure that you don't piss anyone off with them), etc. This has good potential to go viral, and that will outdo all of the paid PR and advertising in the world any day.

    Just to clarify, i would never ever want Conan to "drop his trousers". The website is referring to flashing his chest.

    A bit of legal advice coming from a non-lawyer: Remove all statements that imply Conan will make a flash appearance at your dollar amount. The man has agreed to nothing, and he may sue you for publically saying he would.

    This is a great idea -- and a great looking website.

    I'd imagine that it would be quite easy to get good press releases on this being picked up by the mainstream media.

    I'd really suggest engaging with a press release expert to get this spot on from the start. If you're lucky, you might find someone willing to do it for free -- in exchange, perhaps, for a little free publicity (or just out of the goodness of his/her heart).

    Either way, I think you're on to a winner here -- and I wouldn't be surprised if Conan agreed to get involved. He seems like a good guy.

      Sounds goods but I wouldn't count on it.

      I hope you've checked this thoroughly with an attorney. Using the name and a recognizable graphic likeness of a famous person might not be as safe as you'd think. You are also using the name/image of a recognized and registered charity and that could potentially be a problem.

      I applaud your efforts and hope it works - but CYA to be sure.
