1&1 is an even worse choice in my opinion. I recommend Moniker.com first, NameCheap.com second.

Namecheap is the only other domain service that I've used other than Godaddy and there was nothing to complain about. I started looking for alternatives simply because I couldn't stand all of the upsells that Godaddy throws at you.

By the way, Gene, do they still have the Press Box up in good ol' Oswego?

I've had really good experience with name.com - good value and they have a very simple and user friendly interface (try to find your way to get to something you actually need in GoDaddy - lol!).

maybe you can try namecheap, seems to be a better option. hope you're using coupon codes at godaddy, they take a big slash off the reg price

Another advantage of Namecheap is that it gives you free WhoisGuard protection for the first year.

I use Namecheap and GoDaddy and yes, Namecheap does not send you the endless amount of e-mail promotions that GoDaddy does. I don't know if it's a lot cheaper than GoDaddy (if you use WhoisGuard, then it is), but I like it better than GoDaddy.

Just make sure that you search for "Namecheap coupons" before paying. You can get some really good discounts.

I prefer Moniker and Name.com for my domains as well. The interface of Name.com especially is excellent and makes managing domains easy. I'm not sure if they are cheaper than Godaddy for private registrations.

However,Namecheap has a Whoisguard 5 pack which lets you add whois protect to 5 domains for $8.

I'll pitch in for Namecheap as well. Back in the day I had domains registered with different registrars (Go Daddy, Domain People...) but I've gradually switched them all over the Namecheap. Straightforward, reliable -- and good notifications of expiring domains, so you won't lose one by mistake.

Is namecheap really cheaper than godaddy when you use coupons? I think they are about the same price. They are probably the cheapest domain names you will find online. Just use a coupon.

namecheap.com.

Costs are good especially with coupons, free whois the first year, good customer service. I've transferred all my domains to them and never had a problem.

I would definitely go with NameCheap.

I've used Godaddy for years now and never
had a problem.

I've used NameCheap because i didn't want
to keep all of my eggs in one basket.

I do believe NameCheap is a better service than
Godaddy.

They constantly invite you to contests in which they refuse to pay ANYONE!

They are constantly being hacked by russians via the .htaccess and they want you to PAY THEM to keep your site up.

I had 10 domains hosted on Lunar pages and they all got hacked via the .htaccess file and I got NO Help from them. I had to login and check the .htaccess and make it READABLE ONLY.

Name.com is my favourite.

Simple interface, professional service with no hidden upsell boxes pre-checked, great staff.

Also, do a Google search and you often find discount vouchers. I had 2 domains to renew this morning and got .com register or renewal voucher which meant that they cost $8.25. The voucher was CHEERS if anyone wants to use it.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for Namecheap as well, keep in mind though that they aren't operating as an ICANN registrar yet, but instead as a reseller of eNom. (they are ICANN accredited but not up and running with that system yet).

So you are trusting your domains to both Namecheap and eNom.

Those up sells from go daddy are unreal even. I have been using enom. Mostly it is good is you have a lot of domain names. They do not try to sell you on a million services. Actually before I was using name secure. They are even more expensive.

Tried 1&1 and Justhost when first starting off - both pretty bad, but Justhost was by far the worst ... taking the wet, they'd do silly stuff like when I cancelled domains the interface wouldn't work, i'd mail support they'd confirm the domain was cancelled then they'd bill me for it, happened time after time .. and their support was never good, didn't seem to know what they were doing ended up figuring it out myself most of the time.

After them I moved to Namecheap, all my new domains are with them .. they have good support, prices are pretty good & you don't have to pay through the nose or have like a million up-sells like Godaddy.

I just went to name cheap and unless I'm missing something they are not very cheap.
$9.98 for .com

I have the domain buyers club at Go Daddy (yes they upsell, yes it's painful to find anything) but my .com's as an example are $6.97

You pay $80 a year for the club but when you have 400 urls it saves a decent chunk. Plus I buy maybe 30 to 60 new urls some months.

It seems like everybody who uses 1&1 has something bad to say about it after a while.

I'm still with GoDaddy but I'm looking into my options. It's never good to have all your eggs in one (or two) baskets.
