Anyone Have A Good Ebook Cover Person To Recommend

Let me first say that I never hired anyone to make ebook covers for me, so maybe I am off base here. I always used software I bought years ago, and the results were fair, but I wanted to start using better covers.

So I found a guy on the warriors for hire section, (not going to mention names) that would do it for $17 dollars. He has a few pages of impressive reviews from other warriors, so I decided to give him a try.

I sent him a pm on Friday, and heard from him on Monday. I sent him the simple details, (a line of text for the header, and one for the footer) and paid him the money by paypal.

I told him where I wanted the text, and to put a nice graphic related to the niche in the background. Today, (Tuesday afternoon) I get an email saying I need to supply the graphic.

Is this normal? What is his function? This is a very popular niche, so I would think they have images, if they are in the business of making ecovers. Am I wrong? Not getting good vibes here.

Does anyone have a good ebook cover person to recommend, for next time?

Glen, for ebook formatting, I highly recommend using Tracy Yates.

Shes an established member here and can take an ordinary looking PDF and make it look like an off the shelf magazine.

  I personally use Mark Hess's ebook cover maker. He's a fellow Warrior and I find it great for the e-books I've produced so far.

Regarding your questions (and no, I wasn't providing the service for the OP)

Friday to Monday - well you never know. Most designers (me included) try to communicate and sneak in a quick work in weekends as well, but we have to rest sometime. Or learn new things about design. Or, you know, see what our wives look like The industry standard online is however to at least respond if possible.

Regarding the request to send you the graphic.. That is where it gets a bit weird-ish - of course for $17 you can't expect a stock photo collection on your cover worth $20, but usually there are some free ways too.

By the way, in offline design jobs it is usual that the customer either provides the images or pay additional fees for stock ones - it is never like this "oh, you're a designer, so you must have plenty of stock images already".

Of course, online it is a lot different.

Anyways I think this should've been handled better, but I am not taking any sides without hearing the other party.

I've only had one ebook cover created but I was very happy with the results. It was finished within 72 hours of my first contact and the price was very reasonable.

Just search in Google for ebook design services or you can try fiverr. I have tried some gigs that are related to eBook cover designing and they turned out pretty awesome. Just make sure that you have chosen the right gig, with lots of positive feedback or with a top-rated seller badge.
