Hey Warriors!

I bought a domain longtime ago and it was listed in the DMOZ, the people who were bidding against in the auction reported my site to DMOZ and it got removed..now I started a new site in a new niche and I am wondering is there a way to relist the site since it was there? or I have to submit the site as usual and wait 20 years...
#dmoz #removed #site

I didn't get the site listed, I bought the domain which was owned by an educational institute, .org domain and it had alot of .edu links and from big sites like cbc ...

    fluffythewondercat,

Well DMOZ has a good reputation and a good impact on the SEO as many experts say, maybe its a myth but when I started using Market samurai they always mention DMOZ and have it in their SEO module

It's just one of over 200 signals search engines use to rank your site and is not the magic bullet many people believe it is.

Building a business around search engine traffic is a recipe for disaster anyway.

Don't worry about Dmoz, it's not 2004 anymore.

Lies. I'm not entirely sure why your lot keep saying this

The reason people keep saying things like build your site for people, not just search engines, is because everything is changing radically and faster than ever before.

I just saw something that said that at least in the US, the number of TV's owned has gone down from the year before. People are opting out of television in favor of the Internet and services like Netflix.

Services like Netflix are fighting for market share with the other new players like Verizon.

And people are upgrading from their old tower and desktop computers, often skipping laptops, in favor of a tablet or web enabled phone.

And what would you say to the businesses that were dependent on search traffic before updates like:

        Florida
        Austin
        Jagger
        Mayday
        Panda

Search traffic is a temporary solution and nobody in their right mind, or serious about their business, would depend on it - as history has proven. And will prove again. Probably very soon.

Anybody who's been in this business for more than a couple of years knows how painfully obvious this is.

This time last year thousands of people became unemployed due to a change Google made resulting in hundreds of businesses going bust.

Can you build a 6 or 7 figure business from search engine traffic? Without question.
Will the traffic still be there when you wake up in the morning? That's the risk you're taking.

If you're depending on search engines for your livelyhood, to feed and clothe you and your family, boy, you're already in trouble. Next time check your facts before you decide to call us liars.

          Florida
          Austin

          Mayday

What would I say to them? I'd tell them that they need to sort out their practices and/or make sure that they're not relying on a single source/website for making money.

Ideally, we internet marketers who rely solely on Google for traffic and thus earnings should have numerous websites. Sure, there is a chance one day that Google will radically change their algorithm and those type of websites become obsolete, but so might these other methods people use like article syndication

          Risk vs reward.

I'm assuming the websites you listed are owned by people are not Internet marketers. Their approach to business is 100% going to be different to any ordinary Internet marketers, so you need to consider this before you talk of single cases like the ones you mentioned.

There are lots of people who rely on a single website and search engine for their income, such as my brother, and it has been enough for him to live comfortably for the best part of 6 years.

I've had no luck with DMOZ too. It's really hard to get listed there. They personally check your website if you have followed their specifications, one error means you're not getting listed. I think you are only entitled to submit thrice or twice.

            • it probably still does, though to a lesser degree.

So how does a site with a page rank 8 but a zillion outbound links "give great link juice"?

And please phrase your answer in the form of an answer. :-)

It's not hard at all. Some category editors will take bribes.

You can submit as many times as you want. You can even hire someone to submit your application.

I wouldn't worry about it. DMOZ's traffic is going down, down, down...

    Dmoz.org Site Info

And becoming less important, less important, less important...

If it was listed at flippa as having a DMOZ listing, they almost always get removed. There is nothing you can do about it.

Regardless, it is still a good place to at least try to get a link from, though you shouldn't fret if you never get that link. If you have a legitimate biz, you could get a more trafficked link by getting a Yahoo dir link (at ~$200/year)

Being listed in DMOZ does effect your ranking in a positive way, so you should care. To the OP, did you experience a drop in the site rankings??

Be specific and explain exactly how this works.

For example, affects your ranking with who?

        Heard of Google?

They are talking about search engine rankings, such as Google.

Some say DMOZ isn't as big a deal as it used to be, but it certainly used to give some great positive link juice to help your site's ranking in the search engines. It probably still does, though to a lesser degree.

I used to have a site that was previously listed and then got dropped (still don't know why).

I did feel it in my rankings after a couple of weeks. But can't say for sure that it was because of the drop, because Google keeps changing the algorithm as well of course.
