New xxx extension for domains

Hiya....

I had an incredible idea for a domain name so I popped on over to my fav domain name purchaser and noticed a crazy new extension.... also noted it has a crazy price to match

It was offered to purchase www.mydomainname.xxx

Then I dug a little deeper, it looks like the new extension is to safely id porn/adult sites to stop people/kids etc accidentally stumbling upon a adult content

Seems to be mixed reviews thus far....

I quite like the fact that I can tell by looking at a domain extension if its adult content IMHO

This is going to spark a GREAT debate playboy are totally against it already

Wowser

Yeah this just went live today actually, it's been in the news for a few months though. Not all sites will be using it though, so it's kind of pointless in a way.

correct me if im wrong, but the advertised price is only to be able to get a "seat" for that domain. Once you pay you don't actually own it I THINK

I think the price alone for an "xxx" extension is not at all worth the benefit.

Even as we speak there are thousands of people scooping up all the "good" names (i.e., one word URLs). Second, I think it's going to take a while - if ever - for the "xxx" concept to catch on with the vast majority of internet users.

Additionally, ICANN has already approved the use of several other "new" extensions besides the "xxx" extension. So there's room to grow.

The bottom line is if you have a quality site, a quality product, some kind of quality offering, you're going to be a success regardless of what your domain extension is!

I have also heard they are looking at custom domain extension. So for some ridiculous fee a corporation could own a private extension.

    Say domain.mac or domain.nbc

I don't know how serious or viable that proposal is.
