FREEDOM! from extra baggage; URLs just let em go :)

Hi All,

Many a GREAT URL has popped into my head in the middle of the night and most have proved quite profitable for me. However...

Some of those GREAT names turned out to be not so great.

Sadly, for a long while I saw the need to renew them anyway for many different reasons, mostly because of the "puppy dog" syndrome. I just did not want to let the little cuties go.

Well, one by one I've been letting them expire. I have my portfolio down to just the 35 or so I use and some I'm holding for others.

It's really a great feeling FREEDOM to not be carrying around all the extra baggage.

On the other hand if I see one of them making MILLIONS for..... Oh never mind. FREEEEEEEEDOM!

Anyone else parted ways with a once loved URL?

I can't imagine just letting a domain registration expire--if it was for a good domain (I usually do my research before buying a domain, but even so, I have a couple from my early days of domaining that I would prefer to forget about! ). Even if I didn't want the domain any more, I'd probably still try to sell it, rather than let it expire. I've made decent money selling domains in the past, so this would always be my first choice.

I have (just looked) around 275 domain names. Yep, renewal time makes me cry, but slowly, inch by inch, I setup a blog for each one and use automated plug-ins like caffeinated content and Big Mike's socialbot to gradually bring them into profitability.

I have let some expire (and 1 of my prized domains sneaked of without telling me).
I would say that trying to sell them is better if they are 'aged' rather than just giving them up.

I agree, just try putting them up on SP or another auction first and see what happens...

Maybe nothing, or maybe a couple hundred extra dollars.
