Amazon or directly with the company?

Is it worth being an amazon affiliate and selling their products with 4% commission? Or is it just better to go directly to the company and become an affiliate? Considering that company would pay more commission.

Thanks.

  • I guess it depends what kind of commission difference you're talking about. I personally am an Amazon affiliate. I think one of the big pros to being one is that you have automatic brand recognition. People trust Amazon, so when you send them there, they know that they are often getting a good deal from a reputable vendor.
Also remember that the 4% commission is only when you start each month. Once you are up and running it's pretty easy to get that up to 6%, and eventually 8%.

Personally, I'd stick with Amazon, unless you are talking a commission difference of 25% or something.

Test both out and see which one gets you more $$$. I am betting that Amazon converts better. Amazon's 4% is only for the first 6 sells then it gets progressively better. There are exceptions where the private affiliate program will perform better.

I would start with Amazon because I bet they will convert better in most cases. Then, test different retailers and see where you make the most money.

Remember, it's not always about the highest commission rate.

Conversion rate is actualy more important because you can make a lot more money from the same amount of traffic if you have a high conversion rate vs having a low conversion rate and a higher comission rate.

For instance, If I am selling a guitar for $199.

If I send 100 people to Amazon and I get a 6% conversion rate I will sell 6 guitars which at 8% commission leaves me with around $90 in commissions.

If I sent that same 100 people to a different retailer which pays me 10% commission and I get a 3% conversion rate I will sell 3 guitars and make $60.

Most of the time Amazon will convert better but not always, so test it out.

      Cheers
