Static Vs. Wordpress??

INTERNET MARKETING

Guys I want to put togethor a simple site for a niche.

I kind of like wordpress and the way the page would look. I am more familiar with a standard html website and how to SEO that (Tags, Titles etc..).

Looking to get organic traffic through search engines. Will Wordpress do a good job for me in that regard?

HTML allows ridiculous amount of control. Wordpress offers easy content loading. So many pros and cons for each. But in the end, both will get SEO love.

For organic traffic Wordpress is what you want to use. Google loves Wordpress and because of the inherent natural linking structure of Wordpess it allows a greater seo benefit as standalone.

Also the available plugins will blow your mind!

Thanks I am by no means a master web guy. But wordpress is looking pretty user friendly. I am sure there are some rough patches. But looks cool. Love the plugins. Looks great.

  One key thing with Wordpress and SEO is to be sure to update your "Permalink" structure. I set my permalink structure to "/%postname%/" so that each post link will have the keywords from my title in it automatically.
  
  There are lots of good tutorials out there on how to update this. Whatever you do, make sure you update the permalink structure to get the best benefit out of WP.
  
  Also, install the All-in-one SEO Pack plugin. It will help you to optimize your page titles and a few other nice things.

  For some reasons, the search engines love Wordpress. Coupling with the ease at which you can add/remove your content, it's a great innovation for publishing information.
  
  Having said that, if your content is static, a bunch of html pages don't hurt. I have a few that haven't been updated for ages but is still ranking well in their niche.
  
  In the end, it's up to you. Wordpress is much easier but if your content will be static, I'll go for html pages.
  
  The reason is simple. Your wordpress installation need to be updated from time to time. Leave your Wordpress site a several version behind and a hacker will create a playground in your site at no time.

  Those who do not log in to their wordpress site regularly to post a new info should stay away from Wordpress. Why ? Because if you don't post new info, you won't take the time to update your Wordpress to new versions.
  
  Not updating your wordpress open a site to hackers.
  
  Sadly not many of us, internet marketers care or know about this.

  I hear this all the time. I recall reading that Google will "penalize" a blog's rankings that is not frequently updated. Meanwhile, static pages are given more freedom and can retain rankings with 6 month updates. In fact, in "Niche Marketing on Crack", Andrew actually admits that there are some static sites he could not overthrow despite his aggressive backlink campaigns.
  
  This is why I really wonder about Wordpress. Sure you'll get quick rankings. But will longterm SEO prove as powerful? I can't help but feel that plain old HTML pages trump Wordpress in the 'long-term, less updates' arena.

  AFAIK, what makes Google treat blogs differently is that it likes fresh content. Quality content wins out overall. And links have a lot to do with it also.
  
  But the reason why blogs are loved by Google is also their curse. They have certain "markers" such as the XML-RPC information in their "header" information, which tells google that the site is a blog, and thus it will be loved as long as the blog is kept updated with fresh content. That's the curse. If you have a focused amount of information, and you don't have much that you're going to update the site with, a blog can actually hurt (remember, this is all theory) because google sees a "blog" that isn't updating.
  
  So Wordpress and every other blog and website framework are just tools. They're not magic bullets, or anything else. Just tools. So think about what you're trying to accomplish with the site, and choose your tools accordingly. Otherwise you'll have a harder time down the road.

Wordpress also allows you to set up 'static' pages that can be linked (or not) to blog posts. That way, you can promote your stuff with a blog and have it appear in the same venue...

Here is my opinion: In Google Web Search I believe static sites and Wordpress sites weigh the same, however in Google Blog Search, only Wordpress weighs in regardless of backlinks. In Google Web Search the "quality" content you put in your site (whether its static or Wordpress) will be the deciding factor. Of course, the backlinks to your site will help in this.

The reason why Wordpress seems to be better than static is because of tracbacks, pingbacks, linkbacks (whatever you like to call it, but in layman's terms it's just like backlinks) that is done automatically by Wordpress software across Wordpress sites. In other words, it's like Wordpress has a built-in backlinking feature which obviously static sites don't have.

  I have heaps of static sites that rank well - even after a year of doing nothing with them in good niches. If you anchor them correctly you can get them to stick.
  
  I think it is because people keep clicking on them. Just a theory.
  
  I quite often use the static with wordpress combo for niche sites to get the laser sharp salses front end and the traffic machine strapped on the back for the heavylifting.

I like Wordpress for my information, news and video posting and use static pages for product sales. I also like the ability to password protect a portion of my page with WP.

Combining both Article and Video content with WP is a breeze on the fly.

And here is a problem with Wordpress that I wasn't aware of until a couple days ago after switching themes and pulling my hair out...

If pages on your sites require password protection, there have been ongoing problems with that feature everytime WP comes out with a new version and also whether they work or not depends on what browser and version of browser your visitors are using.

Wordpress without a doubt.

My posts are getting ranked in Google almost immediately after I post. Ease of use is a big plus as well.

So that's pretty cool. You can then go on to claim your blog (claim your site) at Technorati and also subscribe to your own rss feed through Msn. Yahoo, or Google. Which gets your new site or new content indexed almost immediately.

So for a one two punch, the power of an html site with a simple feed page on it can't be beat! I love it.

Wordpress vs Static

Pros: SEO is much better. Great and easy intrasite linking and organizing. Easy to update. Indexes quickly. Much less behind the scenes work. Serves as an online ftp server for content.

Cons: You're at the mercy of the theme you choose. Free themes come with outbound links. Templates aren't very flexible. Limited in the content you can consistently display on the first page. Either work well or horribly with adsense.

There are tradeoffs, but in the end I think WP is the way to go because I see better SEO results (generally) with it. Plus, you're going to save a ton of time with your site structure.
