WordPress Friendly Host?

Hi All,

I have had many of my sites hosted in a shared host package via my isp.
I don't think our host is robust enough and each time I have a word
press issue our host doesn't know anything about solving it.

I am considering moving mavericksofthemind.com to a host that specializes
in WordPress and I am looking for suggestions of hosts and hosting
packages.

We are about to get a lot of traffic, so I need a host and a
package that can handle consistent volume and has an knowledgeable
WordPress help desk. one specific. Also is a dedicated IP address of
any value with regards to SEO?

Finally, how hard is it to move my
whole site. I've never had to switch hosts before. Is this a task the
new host can do for free or for a fee for me?

Thanks!

Suz

Personally, I'm a big fan of HostGator.. They have multiple hosting options from shared to VPS, solid prices and great customer service. Oh, they also have one-click Wordpress installation which saves time and effort.

There are many hosts (Linux platform) which support Wordpress. Of course on Wordpress.org they have their list of "preferred" hosts. I personally use EZPZ Hosting and I've been pretty happy with them. When I have questions, they answer quickly. I didn't have any WP sites when I transferred to them but I did have, among other sites, two ecommerce sites and they transferred them without problems - as long as your current host is using cPanel.

For WP, you can transfer your content via WP import/export but not the plugins. Or, you can use WP Twin (not free).

    I hope this helps somehow.

HostGator worked pretty well when i was hosted there,

I've recently changed to HawkHost tho,

I'd say they are both quite decent for the price.

If you're getting some serious traffic, it's definitely worth it looking into CloudFlare btw.

Hey FunMom... If you are looking for a web host that specializes in WordPress, I heartily recommend WPWebHost. I'm a customer of this web hosting company and they helped me with everything related to WordPress. They claim to be run and operated by WordPress experts, and their servers are also optimized for WordPress installations. They will also transfer all your WordPress sites to your new account for free. You can PM me so that I can help you.

      Hi Suz,

I would absolutely go with Hostgator SEO Hosting.

I have been using it for several years now and have not had one problem.

I have over 100 sites spread across 10 different IP addresses with plenty of traffic using WORDPRESS and I am happy to say all is well.

Plus the customer service is awesome and available 24 hours if you ever have a problem.

Personally I use BlueHost for all my WP sites.

I've heard it said here that HostGator will force you to use the latest version of WP. I often have problems with some versions of WP, and being forced to use a version which doesn't actually work on my system, would be unacceptable to me, so I am glad I chose BlueHost.

BlueHost helped me move a WP site. It's not difficult and BlueHost gave me complete instructions which worked perfectly.

Sorry - I'm being a bit off topic but it's not a case of 'force' so much as the host being pro-active about security. By running older versions of Wordpress you may be leaving your site open to hackers as most Wordpress updates include security fixes.

If Bluehost (or other hosts for that matter - not trying to point the finger here) don't enforce this sort of security measure then that would actually be a downside to me rather than a feature.

Another vote for HostGator. As a techy person myself I've found their support staff to be refreshingly real and knowledgeable rather than being something like
Their service is very reliable as well and they update regularly update their server software.

I personally love me some Host Gator. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I also like the fact that you get someone on the phone pretty quickly, which really surprised me considering how popular it is.

Wow, thanks for all the quick response.

I remember when hostgator opened their doors. at the time, I was already set at newwebsites. But if all the reviews here are genuine (which I know they are), then I think I will make the switch.

      Thanks again, my friends!!!!
