Website at a standstill. Help taking things to the next level.

I currently have a wordpress website with 13 original articles. I have spun one article and submitted it to ezinearticles (pending approval). All of my articles are monetized, and on-page SEO has been done.

I know that my goal is to "rank up in Google" but things are becoming very cloudy, and the information overload is killing me. I have not made any real progress in the last 3 months. I wish I had a specific question, but I don't understand the affiliate marketing process well enough to contrive a targeted question.

I really just need a push in the right direction. Keep in mind that things like list building are still GIANT MOUNTAINS off in the distance. I wouldn't even know where to begin with that process, how it is done, anything. I know very little about html/css and I also feel like that is severely impeding my progress. Things like website pop ups, javascipt, etc just cloud the entire experience even more. I know I can use software (mostly designed by affiliates) to cover some of these tasks, but that path is leading to 30 different software purchases and I would never be able to manage things in that scenario. Especially while also attempting to figure out how IM actually works.

On a fundamental level, I simply just do not know where to go or what I should really be doing. Is my goal to simply rewrite all of my articles multiple times, and submit different versions of my article to different article websites? Honestly, I don't even know if my articles are written appropriately, or if they will even convert. It all seems like such a stab in the dark. As far as i'm concerned, I could be doing this all wrong right now and it may never go anywhere.

I am trying to keep things simple, but I haven't found the direction I need to be taking. If I had to reduce my question, I suppose it would be "what do I need to be doing to rank up in Google, am I even ready for that step"?. However, in all seriousness, I am completely lost and the answer to that question won't take me anywhere if its not specific. I can't pm yet (I don't have 50 posts), but I will link you my site if you PM me your email. Any advice will help.

Thanks.

You seem to be focused on two points here: the first is that you have a website; the second, you have written several original articles for this site and based on those two factors, you wish to "rank your site high" in the Google SERPs. Okay.

What you should be doing is learning everything you can about SEO (search engine optimization).

While every website is different (content wise/goal wise), every site shares common tasks that need to be done over a period of time in order to get your site "out there" and ranked high in Google's search results for your key words.

First, you obviously need to make sure that your site is indexed with all the major search engines.

Second, you need to continue adding original content/unique content to your site to make your website "useful" or "valuable" for potential web traffic (Google LOVES sites that are relevant!) -- all the while you are doing this, you need to start doing some kind of organized SEO!

Example (and this is only one) -- backlinks. You need those. You need other sites linking to your site. Backlinks show (supposedly) that your site is "important", it's worth visiting, it's "relevant". The more quality backlinks that you can get for your site, the better your rankings will potentially be.

If your competition has thousands of backlinks compared to your, um, zero, guess who's going to be ranking higher in your keyword niche? Right.

Again, backlinks is but ONE example of SEO.

The WF is FULL of useful advice on this topic. I'd highly suggest you use the "search" feature of this site to find relevant threads/posts that will help you.

Take notes on all the techniques that you read about that you think will help your site. Then assemble those notes into a plan of action as they pertain to your website.

Do a little everyday. While doing a little everyday may not seem like much, all those little deeds add up to major accomplishments over time -- it's either that or say it's not worth it and watch a year go by with nothing accomplished!

    Good luck :-)

So I guess, short and simple, learn as much as I can about SEO and begin upping my rank. I still feel a bit lost though, I am reading the SEO-frequently asked questions as we speak. Further advice is still appreciated.

    Hi Matt,

I know the feeling all too well.

I guess the way I look at it, is figure out what you are trying to acheive, then find out how to get there.

Here is a little bunch of steps I would use if I had a fresh site.

    1. Choose the right keywords to rank for - make sure they are getting exact searches per month that are high, and try and find some with not too much competition.

    2. If there are people trying to rank for those keywords, find out how many backlinks they have, how old their domain is, and how many pages their site is.

    3. If #1 looks too tough, check the next 5. ultimately you want to be in the top 5 right? if they dont look as bad, go for it.

NOTE: If you are passionate about it, and the competition is tough, go for it anyway.

    4. write an article for your site 500 words long at least, every 2 days at least. use pictures and video if you can. Do this for as long as you can.

    5. Learn on page SEO as well while you are doing this stuff. Things like permalinks, h1, h2 tags will be very important to you. Also keyword density.

    6. After a week of doing the things above, start to build some back links. You could start with your signature in the warrior forums. if you make a new page on your site that you think is a winner, build back links to it also. Dont just build them to your main front page.

RINSE AND REPEAT. Dont just go for one keyword on your front page. Use your sub pages to go for other lower competitive keywords that are related to your industry.

There, now you have a plan. Lol I wish I had one of these when I started.

    Good luck mate.

You need to have a clear goal in mind when you begin an online campaign. What are you trying to do by ranking these sites in search engines? Do you have a plan to monetize the traffic that you get?

There are so many ways to make money online so it's hard to give advice on such a broad subject. I assume that you're going to put some adsense on your site and if so you should check out this forum.

Whenever you have trouble with a given task you should use the search function on the top menu bar of this forum. If you can't find the answer after a little bit of digging then open a thread and you'll get plenty of advice.
