Self Publishing with Amazon

I have a book I would like to self publish with Amazon
Since there are several choices they show I need some help from a pro on what I should do.
Which program Kindle/Create space, etc. is the best to go with?
Can I publish with both or all?

I have read that they do some promotions, does it actually work or should I try doing some of this myself. I am new to this and need all the help I can get.

As I am low on funds right now, are there any good free resources to help promote until I can afford some paid advertising

Thank you,
D

You can do both kindle and Createspace.

With kindle, you'll have to format your work to fit the kindle screen.

There isn't much requirement when submitting work on kindle
but with createspace, there are more complications like
cover page size, images inside the book, colors etc.

It takes a little longer to submit work via createspace and
selling books on Amazon doesn't haul in huge royalties unless
you sell books by the hundreds.

Amazon is excellent in terms of their marketing using the
"Also bought" strategy they implement on product pages.

All in all, it's good to self-publish using Amazon.

Thanks for the info, wanted to make sure I didnt piss off anyone at the Amazon companies.
I did see that create space did have a bit of a process to go through, didnt seem to tough but time consuming like you said. Do any do web type marketing? I did see what you were talking about about their listing.

Are there any free venues that I can advertise on until I can build up advertising funds?

What about the sites that you can submit your e-book to, is that to advertise or are they another version of amazon?

      Thanks

        Also,
I have noticed other e-book sites to sell on like tradebit (think thats the name) If I submit my book to these sites, would this in anyway mess with my submission to Amazon. Can you actually sell an e-book on multiple sites? Or is it best to just stick with Amazon?

I would first get your book on Kindle. You can always add it to Createspace later.

You will most likely make more profits from your Kindle books, but that may depend on your book's subject.

Kindle is cheaper and easier to publish and potentially more profitable. You can trade up to Createspace later. Self publishing is great for establishing yourself as an authority in your niche but not for profit - the books that sell the most are not the best books, they're the best marketed books

My Kindle books profits have been increasing each month. Up to 1700 now. Should be over 2000 next month hopefully.

I plan to get up to 8000 per month. Then I will be happy.

Thanks for the tips guys, since Kindle should be my first choice, should I create a cover for it like Create was allowing me to do? If so what what be the best program to do so. Not really looking for anything elaborate but some unique.

Also, can anyone answer my other questions about marketing the books and the other ebook sites:confused::confused:

Thanks for all of your advice

You can find a ton of marketing tips for your Kindle books by searching the forum here. Just do a search for "kindle" and it will bring up everything you need. The Kindle forum has a lot of info as well.

As for someone saying that self publishing is not great for profits, that's certainly not true for myself anyway. Just one of the books I have out has brought in over $500 this month alone. And it has been bringing in a nice income for more than 2 years now.

The key is a great cover to get their attention, and an enticing and well written description to get them to purchase. Needless to say, you also need to have a good quality book to begin with.

Yes, you can sell your books on other sites. I would encourage you to do so. The more exposure, the more sales potential. It all adds up over time.

    Best of success to you!

I published an eBook on Kindle this past summer. I just published it on CreateSpace this month. I used the cover creator feature in CreateSpace. When I got my proof, I was very pleased with the cover. It doesn't look shoddy at all - very professional. I formatted my eBook for Kindle and Smashwords, so formatting for CreateSpace was much easier by comparison.

If you're low on cash, you may want to consider promoting your book locally with local bookstores. If you do an Internet search you will find some good articles on local book promotion. I don't recall CreateSpace offering marketing and promotion beyond a few marketing pieces.

    Good luck.

When it comes to Kindle publishing, book covers are very important. They serve the same purpose that headlines serve in copy, which is to attract more attention to your offer.
