The never freakin' ending sales video of doom!

Once more I got an email from a warrior that involved having to sit through a rambling, half an hour video that you can't stop, pause.

It was filled with one story after another about how poor he and his buddies were, how they used to walk 10 miles to the homeless center just to get welfare checks so they could buy beans so they could plant them and hopefully grow crops on their sharecropper land, yadda yadda yadda.

Then picture after picture of their bursting bank accounts from their secret system that for some reason they don't get to after this long ass video.

Hell no I wouldn't buy into a program that called for this level of torture. I've even banned the warrior who sent me the email. Not only that but the video went on to having to watch another rambling non specific video etc. In that amount of time I could have built a new website and monetized it.

Get to the point for crying out loud. If it takes that long to convince me, it says to me you're lying or don't have enough confidence in your product.

And he was so incensed by the process that he spent more time coming in here posting the latest in the never freakin' ending series of complaints about the same thing.

I don't like 'em either, folks. But the response is to close the page and get back to what you were doing, not waste space on the forum telling people about it.

Don't like the videos? Close the window.
Don't like the mail someone sends you? Unsubscribe.
Don't like long salesletters? Don't read 'em.
      Don't like OTO's? Don't buy 'em.

Sure everyone can just shut the page and a lot of people do, including me. I don't normally come in and make a thread about how lame a video or sales page is, but if everyone were like me, there would be no feedback on what cheesy methods are best left undone.

Not that anyone listens anyway ... there are far more cheesy sales videos than interesting ones. Really ... walked 10 miles to get beans for sharecropping. Priceless. That's worth 30 minutes of my time. lol.

I know the guys that made the overview video for mint.com said you have 1 1/2 minutes max, but anyway...

Anyone know what the deal is with the can't pause, can't even tell how long videos out there.

Is that some kind of powerful technique? </sarcasm>

It must work or we wouldn't see so many people doing it. For me personally, note I say me personally, I'd never take part with a company doing this.

I can open the Yellow Pages anywhere in the world and see tens of millions of dollars in totally useless adverts.

People in the Internet Marketing community are like lemmings. Just because so many people are 'doing something' definitely does NOT mean it is working.

Perhaps it did when the very first few people used that method but when we question people in seminars, videos that go on and on with no controls are one of their top hates. :-)

Yeah, there are times that I need to pause or stop a video and I can't (or don't know how, if there is some way other than pressing a pause button that does not exist) and it's exasperating when I can't do this. Unless it's a short video. But for one that's really long (or worse, you have NO IDEA how long it is) I won't hang around for long.

I do understand that there is a background or set-up that can strengthen or under-gird the main point of the video, but the pinto beans to caviar stories don't faze me any. I suppose they do to some, though. If the rich marketers were really that poor and are now really that rich, good on them. Glad they made it. Rarely do I take the marketer's desired action when either of those two points of yours in the quote above apply.

I bought a product from CB and there were 7 videos after i purchased, up-sells, down-sells, OTOs... & I had to watch them just to get to to the product, there wasnt even a no thanks link at the bottom of the page, it took me over 40 minutes just to get to the product!
The product, a video course was a good course when i finally got to it but just for all the other sales videos I had to watch I got a refund.
I know this kind of marketing with up-sell, down-sells, OTOs... works but you should be able to skip through if your not interested.

I watch some of them, because it sometimes makes me laugh how gullible they think most people are (or how gullible most people are if this method works). Sometimes I'm just curious. We here in the warrior forum are jaded and suspicious by nature due to most of us having been scammed repeatedly.

We all know there is no one click button that does it all for you, but many of us check these things out in the usually vain hope that it might save us some time we can use elsewhere. There are some of those darn videos that I just have to shut off immediately.

What really bothers me about these is that sometimes I'm checking them out before having to leave for an important appointment. When I don't know how long they are, I don't know if I have the time to watch the whole thing and I hate, HATE when I have to leave because of time constraints and have to start all over again.

    HECK NO!

I'm just glad that ClickBank has been trying to clean up their reputation by making it harder for the scammers. (Note I said harder not impossible.)

I think the greatest disservice these types of videos do is to the marketer themselves, because I REALLY HATE when you have decided you are actually interested and you have to wait for the video to reach a certain point before you can even see the button to buy it.

That usually convinces me not to buy the item. Although, I always have the option to change my mind in the inevitable myriad of exit-pops and OTOs when I try to leave. LOL

love them or hate them take a good look, marketers use them cause they work, and you are not everyone. You might be 1 of about 1000 people that see that page, and I guarentee you that most of them will watch it.

It's so weird that you say that. I wish there were some numbers somewhere that 'quantified' your guarantee. From the looks of this thread so far, 7 out of 10 people hate it. That's 70%!

7 out of 10 and 100% of those are marketers and know the tricks and tactics of a video sale letter right.

Did you ever stop to think about all the other people (that make up the traffic) that do not know about IM or a video sales letter. Comon, seriously.

Look, I will show you the stats.

Our video sales letters conversions = 3% - 6% (give or take)

Our normal standard written text only sales page conversions = 1% - 2.85% (give or take)

Video sales letters work. If they didnt work, then BIG marketers would not use them right?

All I am saying is they work, if you like em' watch em, if you don't close down your browser and go get and icey cold beer from the fridge to cool off.

and we do not make those 30 min long sales letters. The ones that convert best....get this....after many trials are always under 9 minutes long.

But those are just our stats.

All kidding aside, at least you have some numbers to look at. That may be the most important issue here.

eerrrr, yes that is why I compared it to video sales letters, as is the topic of this thread. :p

These threads pop up from time to time.... although many people hate these videos salesy things, you always never hear the stats behind them.

Heavy hitting marketers get good results with them...that is my point.

No one is forcing anyone with a gun to the head and telling them they much watch them. Simple as that.

It's not so much the length of the video but the presentation. Even if I was dead broke I wouldn't go for a product that took 30 minutes to not get to the point. I didn't know a couple of the biggest marketers in the world live in my neighborhood. I've known them for years but didn't go for the marketing end until recently. Both do extremely well and are wealthy. However, their video presentations have that "come on" but they move right on into the meat and potatoes. Then they follow with what courses, videos etc.. You get it right there. They're held to a higher standard than your run of the mill IMer but they get massive results.

In my experience, the best-converting videos are the not the 10+ minute ones that lead right to the "buy now" link. They are the 1:30-3:00 warm-up type videos that lead to the written sales letter or are at the top of the sales letter page.

I find that the long videos are annoying but if I am interested in the product I will listen to the beginning, do other things like laundry, cook, do dishes LOL until the end and then check out the written sales page to see if I want to buy it. Gets me away from the computer so I get some things done.

I do not care about their new house, car or other things in between the real reason for the video, but I do appreciate the time so my house does not look like I have been robbed

I normally go to another window and let it play in the backround til its done.

until last week when I switched to another tab and it detected it was not on top and paused the video until I went back to that tab and it started right back up when i put that tab on top again.

reminds me I need to find that solution as that was sweet as a tactic, but not so nice as it made me leave the computer for a bit til it finished..
