How do you manage multiple Websites?

Hey there,

just starting with IM-Business, after quiting my 9 - 5, I´m thinking about how I should manage it, to build up 10 Sites or more simultaneously, and maintain several hundred sites? How do you keep an eye on continous backlinkbuilding, publishing content every x day or weeks, watch out for new competitors and so on? And this with 50 - xxxx Websites! I hope you know what I mean by that...

How come, you want to work on 50 webs simultaneously? IM as for Internet Marketing? Well, my experience go as far as for some 8 websites. You know, this Paid-To-Click stuff, where you must visit those pages, so I made a sticky tabs and separated one browser for all that, so when I launch the browser, it opens all those 8 web sites at once, each in a separate tab and directly on the clicking interface. This way, I can effectively earn lots of money in practically a couple of seconds. What took me an hour before, takes just about 5 minutes now. Pretty handy though. But not entirely sure, if that's what you need.

    Cheers,

    Hey there...

Slow down and focus on ONE website at a time. Trying to focus on too much is just going to make you get frustrated and not do a good job on any of them.

Pick one good niche and focus on building 10 solid quality pages in that niche. Give away a freebie to build a email list. Monetize with Adsense/Amazon Products/Clickbank Products, etc.

    Rinse and Repeat

I recommend doing 3 and then going back and adding more information to those three sites until they have at least 20 - 50 pages.

Create a schedule to follow for updating content i.e. Mondays you add content to Site #1, Wednesday to Site #2 and Friday to Site #3.

Treat this like your new job - only instead of a company, you're working for yourself. You'll get a lot more done this way.

Only after you have created 3 awesome authority sites should you move on to others.

    That's my 2 cents.

Oh, yeah...this is based on my own experience.

I know what you mean. I will focus my power to one site for the starting content part. But ther is far more to do than that. I don´t want all my backlinks be created in two days. I want some sort of todo list like "Monday: add site1 to xxx webdirectorys, add 1 post to site 3, do xx backlinks by hand for site 2 like forums, guestbooks; Tuesday: ....."
And I want to keep an eye an all my Websites like the Marketsamurai "Rank tracker". I don´t want to forget to write emails to the top autority sites for bacause of xxx after reching my goal xxx. Working with Outlooks todolist is just horribel, because of the huge amount of tasks, I want to arrange.

I know that focusing is important. But I´m going to work 8 -10 hours a day on my projects and I don´t wana waste time beacuse of bad managemant or arrangement.

Yea, I think if you are looking to build a large number of websites, your best bet is to use a spreadsheet to manage all your information. However for the most part I agree with "Fun to Write," it's certainly best for you to run a few high quality authority websites than to have 100 crappy websites!

However, I love seasonal websites that promote various Holidays and don't need regular updates for most of the year!

I don't believe that you need more than 20 sites at the same time......I run around this number and make a very decent income. It is possible to start small and buy income producing websites from the start. This saves an awful lot of time and effort in backlinking, driving traffic, website building, adding content etc. the secret is to have a buying plan and stick to it.

Since you are new to IM, I think I would start with launching one successfully before I launched 100. If you can't get traffic and revenue, 100 sites are just 100 sites.

But I can´t afford it to just build one site at a time. No matter how well i do it, it will take at least one or two months until I rank in search engines and until i get revenue.

add to that: 100 sites are 100x expenses for domains, time put to into making them etc....

Make a list and prioritize. I have hundreds of sites and some get no content, some get a lot. I have a sign next to my monitor that says 3 before 7, which reminds me to post three articles before 7 am. My client sites come first, then my niche sites.

There are different business models. You can have hundreds of sites earning a few bucks a day or fewer sites earning more bucks a day etc.

The way I manage my sites (I opted for fewer but larger sites) is with spreadsheets.

Each site has it's own spreadsheet. I list out all the keywords on one page with the potential, traffic etc.

On another page I have my URL's for those keywords. This clicks through to the traffic page. On the traffic activity page, I have all the types of traffic activity for those keywords such as article marketing, web2.0, contextual link building etc. As I complete an activity I date it. This way I can see what I did, what works, what I need to do.

Works great and keeps you on task and organized.

I think to manage multiple websites you really need lots of time and stuff, because multiple websites need more editors as well as more contributors who can contribute their stuff and times, I always try to get content and stuff for all my sites first and than i update them at once.

Figure out your "plan" for the site and go through the steps.

I do sort of the same thing as LilBlackDress and I have a spreadsheet of all the "tasks" that i want to perform on each site.

I go through the tasks and then when I am done I set that site aside for a while… or maybe forever.

It depends on how you "see" your sites if you think you need to maintain them forever then you will need to outsource some of those tasks but if you see each one as an income stream that will earn for a while and eventually dry up then you can set and forget them. Some will keep earning for a long time, some will die out quickly. BUT you need to put in the initial work up front to get any of them to earn anything.

the simplest way I do this and I have less sites at the moment but it is a very scalable model is to use non other than an excel spreadsheet.
a top I write the url and downward the process that need to be done and I do the same process for every site so I just mark what I have done and what needs to be done is left blank
