Does the Trailing Slash Matter in Article Links?

I have some training material that tells me to BE SURE NOT to put the trailing slash in the URL that is linked to articles and other SEO materials because it means something different to G. Does anyone know if it really matters? It seems like it automatically shows up at the end of the link in the address bar when I'm on my site. I've been taking it out, but thought I'd get a second opinion.

For example: I'm linking to: http://mysite.com/pagename

and NOT with the trailing slash of: http://mysite.com/pagename/

This does not matter. It is more personal preference than anything else. I always include the slash (unless I am linking directly to the homepage). It does not really make sense to leave it out because:

mysite.com/pagename will re-direct to mysite.com/pagename/ so you should just link it directly to the url with the trailing slash.

I would love to know the reason behind your training material telling you to BE SURE NOT to put the training slash in the URL

Eddie, she just said that G considers the link with the trailing slash to be "something else." I thought it was weird.

Thanks everyone for replying, I'll quit wasting my time removing it since in a text link it's not noticeable anyway.

I would not try to worry too much about it, there will always be information that conflicts about whether or not you should leave the trailing slash.

It really does not matter to the search engines, I leave it in, but I guess it just depends on how you think it looks to you.
