Someone uses my name to scam other people

I received email from one of my writers telling me that somebody with the name of "Jennifer Maddison" is claiming to me my secretary and requesting articles from writers in different freelance websites. She is telling writers to contact me for payment. Beware of this woman as I don't know her and I don't even have a secretary. Her email address is jennifermaddison73@yahoo.com. Beware..

    Sounds like an "inside job".

Look to those close to you or with whom you've done business with recently...and have had a "falling out" or worse yet: the detection of bad vibes!

Thanks for warning for all those that your information applies to!

She ordered articles from some writers at freelancer.com and did not pay them. She told writers to ask me for payment...and I don't know her...

See if you can find out where the articles are being posted. That might give you a clue about who s/he is. If the writers will cooperate with you, then you should be able to issue dmca notices.

Advise the writers to publish the articles themselves, asap, or even set up a website for them to publish them to. That way, if the thief hasn't used the articles yet it will be easier to prove to google that you, or the writers, own the copyright

    That is awful

I hope you get it sorted out and the articles that are live you could get them removed as they are not paid for and use a new system with your outsourcers so that they know it really is you.

I think one of the people you know are doing this scam. Better inform other outsourcing website about this scam.

Surely she can be traced very quickly through the account she set up with Freelancer to order the articles.

Definitely do that. This is an interesting scam to say the least. Not the most logical though. If someone put their secretary in charge of ordering articles wouldn't they give them the authority to pay for them as well?

Wow. This must be a new thing that scammers are doing now. Sucks.

I think you should contact various freelance sites that these writers are registered with and send their administration this information pronto. This hopefully will get the scammer banned quickly.

I'm confused. Why would one of your writers know this before you do? Were you contacted for payment? Did the writer send you a copy of the ad for the work? Sending the ad copy to the freelance site should be all you have to do.
