Can someone explain to me why some threads get locked?

I was just reading up on a recent thread by a fellow warrior in which he wrote about his off line marketing via flyers. It seemed like a pretty good interesting thread but it suddenly got locked. I think it was by a guy named nicheblogger75 and it seemed to have some pretty good useful info on it.

Anyone knows how and why some threads that are not threatening get locked?

Just curious.

Moderators will lock down a thread when the conversation is no longer productive, on topic, or has turned into a flame war.

...threads like these get shut down pretty fast too

      Thanks Joe,

I was really enjoying reading that thread - it seems that it really showed actual ways to make real money without any money. No flaming or scams - just a merry bunch.

I guess most will never know those secrets now.

The most common reason for a thread being locked is because it's being constantly updated by the OP

Those sort of never ending "follow me" type threads would soon get
    out of hand if allowed.
    Everyone would want one.

Lol my thread was locked after the first answer to the question I asked a while back. It was a good enough answer but more would have helped me.

I have to agree with my fellow warriors, the only way I can imagine the thread got shut down, was because the poster did not read the rules of posting properly, or just got something wrong, and he got shut down.

Not certain of the reason myself, just adding my opinion.

Or when people bicker and jump off topic and find the thread completely useless.

Thanks guys. I ask because I see this little "infraction" card on the left. Just wondering if that meant that anyone could just click on it and shut down a thread. And I know - I have more reading to do on what all the different buttons and options on WF actually do.

Lot's of cool stuff and overall this site kicks ass.
