What is The Best Alternative to Gmail?

As Gmail is a product of Google.....and Google is the king... I think there is no substitute for Gmail in my opinion otherwise Yahoo is also good choice.

I first started with Gmail, switched over to Yahoo. Now I'm back to Gmail again. I still prefer Gmail for its simplistic interface. Its easier to manage your preferences and settings in Gmail as compared to Yahoo.

To add on, Gmail also allows you to manage email addresses under your .com domain

Yahoo is okay especially now because they're deleting all the accounts which are not in use. I've been using Gmail and Yahoo for a long time and had no issue with them

Never a hotmail - cause they're lots of spam

Hmmmmm, l used to have a Yahoo account but tended to use Gmail, so it was eventually deleted.

I also have a Hotmail account, which is more of an account l would post online, because its less user friendly than Gmail, and has annoying ad's.

Anyone here tried to start a second Gmail account?

If so, did you have any issues with it, like it messed up your Youtube, channel optin settings, etc?

  I too have multiple Gmail accounts. The reason why it will get mixed up its because of the single sign on process when you switched to YouTube while logged into your whichever Gmail account.
  
  The good thing is both YouTube and Gmail allow you to switch between accounts. Look out for the "switch account" link on the website. It should be somewhere near to the "Sign Out". It will only prompt once for your password to your second account and allow switching between seamlessly subsequently.

I agree with the previous post about hotmail.

I once had a hotmail account but stopped using it
because the spam was out of control.

That was 2 years ago....so to be fair, hotmail could
be alot better now then it was before.

Too tell the truth, I have never have any severe problem with Gmail account. At least, it was not like the joke service at yahoo and hotmail. Gmail has been really awesome all this while, and it is free :-)

While I myself prefer Gmail, hotmail and AOL are decent alternatives. You could also just register a domain and use that as your email, provided of course you have hosting.

Wow.. I'm surprised (and interested) to see a few complaints about Hotmail as I have been using it for 5+ years and would usually highly recommend it. I can't say how it compares to Gmail though, as I have an aversion to anything google :p and so have never tried it.

Now that people mention it, there is an ad down one side in Hotmail, but I don't often notice it. I have my flash player disabled 99% of the time, so that may be one reason why it doesn't bother me (a flash ad would be distracting for sure)

As for spam - some of my hotmail accounts get a lot of it, and others get none. I think it usually depends on where I have used each email address, and/or how easy it is to guess it.. eg [name]@hotmail.com is going to get spammed :rolleyes: When I do get spam, hotmail does a great job of sorting it into the junk folder, and it is rare that anything I want ends up in there. I use the 'sweep' function to block all junk folder addresses at once, and sometimes will manually add a domain name to the block list too. Really simple to keep on top of it, but once again I am not sure how that compares to other email providers.

Gmail is the way to go; I personally do not see any alternative. Yahoo, Hotmail, are all bloatware, and the spam filters are execrable. Plus, Gmail is native on Android; I couldn't do without it.

not sure about the others in here, but I think gmail just gets better with age, like fine wine.

That is just me the calendar, reminders and chat is awesome features too. There are no way anyone in here is gunna get away from spam...we just have to deal with it. But google has a pretty good hand on it I think. Their filter is good.

If ignore Gmail, i believe you only can go with Yahoo-mail. While Hotmail is even worst that always facing of being hack and spam with virus email and keep request you to change the passwords frequently.

I have more GMail accounts than I can keep track of. I literally use a spread sheet. (It's important for me to organize my business and clients)

Here's how to handle at least 4 GMail accounts at the same time with no hassle:

Simply install 4 browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox, Saffari). You can put your most used GMail account on your favorite browser. But, each browser is "dedicated" to a certain account.

Simply click on IE and check that adsense or youtube or mail, then click on Chrome to check the next adsense, youtube, mail, etc.

You'll stay logged in for each browser and have no problems.

Oh. and as much as I hate to be a slave to Google.... i don't think any other email even comes close. Unless you like looking at Viagra and Dating site ads whenever you check your mail.

That's cool. I've never messed with that and I'm looking at it now. But there are many situations for me where I don't want anything mixing.

For instance, it can get a little sticky having multiple adsense accounts. Technically you may have several legitimate businesses, but I tend to be cautious as Google can just wipe you out with no explanation or chance to even say anything.

But, back to the OP... I guess if you can deal with it.. yahoo would be second best. Else wise, use one of the web based mails that your server probably provides.

Yes, you're right, there is condition that you must not do a multiple sign-in, for example if you have multiple adsense account, but if you just use their email service, it's ok, thx for your info jficarro.

I also have accounts on yahoo, hotmail and gmail as well but problem is hotmail gets hack easily so i will refer you to go with yahoo.

I have to admit that Firefox is my favorite, although l have an IE browser as well, so when l create a new campaign, (graphics, text etc) it looks great in Firefox and acceptable in IE.

70% of people still use that horrid browser so l need to cater to both parties.

I have looked into Google aps, but from what l can tell, l would need to pay $5 per month for the business Gmail, and the free Google aps Gmail is as far as l can tell just plain Gmail?

Sounds like l either need to use Gmail with IE browser or just go with Yahoo mail?

They all suck!!! But I find myself using Chrome more for some reason. They all have good and bad aspects and none of them is perfect. Firefox has it's plug ins, but has become less stable IMO over the years, IE is... well IE - but is probably the most used by our clients and visitors. Safari has a nice look to it, but the address bar bugs me and it's too "apple-y". Chrome is OK, but hangs sometimes where IE doesn't.

Yes, you can use Safari on Windows.

But none of this should have anything to do with Gmail. If your problem is with Gmail and Chrome, then uninstall Chrome and reinstall. That may work. Software is just buggy sometimes.

What problems are you referring to exactly? Are you having a bad experience with Gmail or are you purely going by what others have said? I've been with Gmail for years now, I've never had any problems with it. I think it's pretty superior to its competitors.

Just going with what others have said.

I have heard too many horror stories about getting a second Gmail account and having the software having kittens with linking to their Youtube, etc accounts.

Got a Ymail account.

The personalization is a good extra, and l may use the calendar.

Gmail does a better job with links, and the main page shows up immediately, Ymail, goes to a page, which shows any new messages, but not the actual results page.

It also has a few more bells and whistles with text, etc.

Overall a close second to Gmail, and it should be good as a business email.

I am a yahoo girl

I love it and have never had a problem with it and just forward my biz emails through my yahoo account and it works like a dream.

I have also heard of other people having problems with gmail though I have never tried it personally.

I vote for Yahoo because it's just very solid and dependable. I have multiple email accounts there for SEO clients, business, personal, etc and it has never failed. Used to have multiple problems and issues with Hotmail and switched to Yahoo because of overall usability.
