We have put in a fair amount of effort to our site and are starting to see some sales through the site. I have had some feedback that people are looking at other sites after having experiences with poor work on Fiverr. So yes some people are definitely making money.

I have tried to make such clone for my country where the market is relatively small. There was some success in the first few weeks then everything suddenly died. Fivver is quite too big and online payments are hard in my country

Instead of cloning you should think of a unique idea that goes beyond geographics and you're more likely to touch upon a winner.

Out of all the fiverr clones I've seen (and I've seen way too many), most of them are monetized with some sort of advertising scheme, like Adsense. That indicates they're not making enough money to justify their existence.

My friend made a Fiverr clone called AnyPricerr. It was a great idea, and a great domain name, but there is too much competition, and he didn't have the thousands of dollars required to get enough people to join, and to attract repeat customers.

    Good Luck,

I brought this subject up last month

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...type-site.html

and basically decided I didn't have the time or funds to launch and run it properly. I still have the idea and the desire, still lacking the time and funds.

Seems like what so many do, trying to clones others success. Like the guy that sold pixel's on his website, after that, 100's of them came out, never saw a clone that found success like the original.

Come up with your own idea, with no competition

    • Some clone owners have gotten money when they sold their clone. There have been a few sales on Flippa. One site's been resold several times. Hope springs eternal.

But notice I said "gotten money", not "make money." If they were absolutely honest with themselves and totted up the cost of the script and opportunities lost, they probably made about $1 an hour.

That's less than they'd get just working Fiverr gigs. Oh, the irony.

Don't ever feel that just because something has been done before that it can't be a success. There were other search engines around before Google. Google was actually started in a garage and went by another name for a while, but soon they were one of the best. If you want a site like Fiverr.com just make one, but have some extra twists to it so people will want to use your gig site.

Maybe your gig site will have an affiliate system in place so many people are driving people to your website. (hmmm) maybe I should have kept that idea! Or maybe your gig site will have one day per month where you buy 4 gigs and get the 5th one free. Put your thinking cap on and think out of the box!

    • Hey RhondaG,

It's great that you're enthusiastic -- are you thinking about trying this for yourself?

The problem pretty much every clone owner has encountered is promoting his/her site. Fiverr had first mover advantage and thus didn't have to spend a lot of money to gain recognition. They also had a corps of volunteers (like me) who were willing to talk to the media for free.

Clones typically don't charge people anything to list their gigs (or even charge commissions, in the beginning) but getting buyers there is difficult and expensive. And when your site isn't bringing in any money, you can't afford paid traffic.

      That's why these sites fail.

No, I was not thinking of doing this myself, I just like to help people think out of the box a little bit. There is usually a way to do something if you think on it long enough, lol.

I have my hands full right now just writing for clients and adding more books to Kindle on a regular basis. But the nice thing about Warrior Forum is people can bounce ideas off either other and sometimes it might ignite just the spark you needed.

    Nice comment fluffythe wondercat,

I think these are very interesting concepts. If the time and money takes a fair amount, I think a new twist or whole new concept could be better of, as opposed to cloning such an established site.

It's a rather pointless business model.
Don't waste time trying to reinvent the wheel.
The guys behind Fiverr got there first, did a great job and have made that market their own.
