Advice sought on list building, driving traffic and clickbank

I have a couple of websites that I am trying to get working. Quick background - I come from a technical background, so I can build/program my own websites etc. Its the marketing side of things that I need help with.
I have a some knowlege about SEO (I use Market Samurai for some tasks) and basic inbound IM techniques (article writing, building backlinks, PR releases etc), but I haven't managed to somehow systemize this knowledge into a definite plan/set of procedures - and I would appreciate help from the guys on here to help get me started.
I have a number of questions that I would like to ask you, and would be grateful for an answer or at least a pointer in the right direction.
Question 1
I have a website which is a social network covering a particular niche (falls under making money). The content on the site will be mostly user generated. At the moment, I don't have any products to sell on that site. What I am offering with the site is the opportunity for people to learn from an unbiased source, how to make money and make their money work harder for them. Content will initially be contributed by me, but then as the community grows, content will be largely user generated.
The revenue model is basically the "freemium" model, - i.e. until the time I have products to sell, derive revenue solely from ad revenue - which depends on traffic (so I'm in a catch 22 situation)
My question is that given that at the moment, I don't have any products per se to sell, can someone suggest a strategy that I can use to:
a. drive traffic to the site
b. build lists
Question 2
I have another site which is an e-commerce site - it allows people to buy and sell things from each other. It is a new site. Once again, i do not have a product per se to sell. What the website provides is an opportunity for people to save money or make money.
Can someone suggest a strategy that I can use to:
a. drive traffic to the site
b. build lists
Question 3
I have some experience in the niche market in which the website in Question 1 operates. I have even written a book, which I could possible sell as an ebook via clickbank. Does anyone have some suggestions on how I may sell the book on Clickbank and somehow use that to drive traffic to a website (and possibly ask for registration)? will that work?
Question 4
I have developed various software in my chosen niche which I can sell.
i. My first question is: is it possible to sell software (or more specifically, access to service/functionality provided by software) via Clickbank?
ii. My software is a subscription based service (as opposed to a "one off" sale price). is it possible to sell subscriptions via Clickbank?
I know they are quite a lot of questions, but there seems to be so many ways of doing IM, and I have already wasted a lot of time (about 1 year) trying to do things by trial and error - so I thout its best to come in here to learn from the best instead of wasting even more time.
