Craigslist Q... Is posting a link to a youtube vid a violation of (CL) TOS?...

A friend of mine had his CL acct. frozen or something + we're trying to figure out why.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The <embed> HTML element isn't allowed in Craigslist, so if you were able to post the ad that's probably why it's not showing up. Personally what I do is take a screen shot of the video, crop it to the player size, insert it as an image and link the image to the video on YouTube. Always worked for me and I get good click thrus.

And as you probably know there could be many other reasons for your ads getting 'ghosted'. Many communities have those crazy people that spend their time flagging ads. Try posting a regular ad with no external links and see if that shows up, if not you'll need to create a new account.

    Thanks.

His ad that we think "did it" (caused the problems) was a just-plain text ad.
But it was unusual in that the text contained a hotlink directly to a YT vid (also, the headline had "SEE VIDEO!" in it).

He's got other ads that ARE html AND his competitors have been known to flag his listings to try to knock him down (he says). AND he posted an ad in the wrong category (purposely).

So, we're not sure what triggered it. Maybe just a temporary CL bug! Anyhow his whole acct. has been frozen somehow + if he tries to post, it get IMMEDIATELY deleted.

    Any ideas / advice?

      CL can be tricky.

Probably best to set up a new account. I don't know once your account has been "frozen" if it is temporary or permanent, but if he is "blacklisted" he will not be able to post with that account again.

So, your friends account isn't frozen like you said... the post is just ghosted? That is common. If the account was frozen he wouldn't be able to log in.

There are people that use software to auto flag posts containing certain keywords.

Is that ghosting condition temporary?? How long will it take to go away?

Not sure exactly, it happened to me once and I abandoned that account for two weeks. After that it was fine.

If you need to post sooner you can change your IP and set up a new account. Then to prevent it happening again just stay within their terms: don't post in multiple cities, don't post more than once a week (although I can usually post once every two days), don't include spam keywords like 'make money' etc.
