Is December a slow month for your online [info]products?

I noticed a dip in revenue starting first week of december, and was wondering if others are seeing the same behavior.

P.S. My product is related to iPhone/iPad app design.

I've seen this, and I think it's a trend. People are more conservative with their money when they need it for gifts for friends so they don't buy guides and the like for themselves as much.... at least that's my hypothesis

This is a traditional few weeks in which people care more about themselves and their enjoyment rather then their future business ventures. However, a few days after Christmas this swings the other way around as new year resolutions help people become more focused on success.

    How much is the traditional trend/dip? -25%? -50%? -75%?

Depending on the topics it can be. January and February are pretty good months though.

Depends on your niche. If you're into hot Christmas toys, it can be a very good month. Other gifts can do well also, but generally, people are spending less on ebooks and info products, etc. due to the holidays costing a lot of money for gifts and decorations, etc.

I have heard from many big direct mailers that January and February are the best months of the year for selling physical products mail-order (which may not have applied to buying physical/digital things online so much as catalogs, as this was 2002). So if that's true it might be a good trend to know about and prepare for.

  • Yup, normal thing: December is weak for info products since people are tight in money and going crazy with the Christmas thing.

Slow month for me on certain websites, but active on gift-related websites. So 50/50 I'd say.

I always count December as half a month. When it gets to about the 20th I generally stop getting orders. I'm a cartoonist for hire so corporations tend to stop wanting orders and usually leave it until January (which is manic) It's as though everyone has new years resolutions and want to get their arses in gear.

Same applies to the personalised caricatures I do. There's only so much time in December I can have to finish the caricatures and get them sent out.

So normally my business dies from about the 20th December to about 2nd January.

But after that it goes BOOM! (thankfully)

Hey Jamie, I am writing a childrens story for my Granddaughter and I want her to be the character in it as well. Would you be able to make me a Fairy cartoon character of her? If so how much, what do you need from me other than a picture and etc. I always call her my Kiwi Fairy Princess, she lives in New Zealand, so maybe if you could go with something along those lines??

December always drops for me, then picks up again in January, quite often with a surge!

This has been going on ever since Christmas became highly commercialized. If you are selling Christmas related or gift type merchandise/services, sales generally go up. For many other type products and services, sales generally go down.

Increased advertising and marketing during Christmas and other major holidays can sometimes level things out.

NOV and DEC are the busiest time of the year for us and maybe thats because we sell Gift sets and xmas related products... so it really depends what ur selling. When I was in the Energy business - Gas and Electricity. People in NOV and DEC wanted to SAVE money during the freezing period and we would make sales/commision switching them over. So I guess its pretty normal to see a dip in sales with regards to info products.

Targeting businesses for year end capital investments for tax deductions has always been very profitable for marketing high-end Amazon products.

Depends on the niche - I find golf to be slow in dec, but thats more than likely due to the weather. Interestingly, traffic hasn't dipped at all during the winter months, just the conversion rates.

I suppose it depends what you are selling - if its a physical product which people may buy for a gift then its a very good idea to launch in dec. On other hand - I would guess that people mainly buy info products for their own consumption, and spending on personal stuff may be restrained in december for a lot of people..
