I thought the untouched niche was impossible, but...

I found one, and it's something that I'm highly interested in! I can barely contain my composure. This is huge for a noob at doing, not knowing. Read on, this thread serves a two-fold purpose.

The Basics

- more than half a million searches in Google per month on the main keyword
- NO dedicated blogs or websites
- Domains are open wide for the choosing
- it's interesting

Moving Along

I'm a content writer, so that's covered. I'm okay with web design, so I can squeak by on that until I can afford to hire someone. I'll definitely need some help with the membership site aspect and potential. I'm not interested in affiliate marketing with things like Clickbank. What are my options?

I'm in the Market for a Coach/Mentor

I want to skip some of the trial/error on this one. I want to hire a good coach/mentor who knows how to make money with a content website that includes images, how to's, articles, product reviews, tutorials, video, etc. It would also be plugged into social media and some of it would be highly shareable. There is also potential for user-generated content.

Can anyone recommend someone or give me a ballpark as to how much it might cost to hire someone to give me a little direction?

Obviously, I can't post the details yet, but I'll definitely share when I get the site set up. Your help is much appreciated.

First of all....congratulations! I'm excited to see a post like yours because it reminds us that this is something that's still entirely possible. You can spend a ton of time researching and still not coming up with anything and after a while it will seem like maybe every keyword is taken. That's not true and probably never will be. Your post shows that clearly!

Now, as per your request, I offer one piece of advice: don't give up the details of your niche to anyone who sends you a pm saying "I will be your mentor." Research the reputation of anyone you decide to mentor you. Also, it might also be a good idea to register the .com .net and .org for your keywords before you give them out to anyone.

Don't take my post the wrong way, though. There are a lot of great people here who can and will give you some great help. Just make sure you go with the right one. Good luck to you on profiting from your great find!

Steven, I missed your post on my first swipe through the thread. Sorry about that!

The keyword is an exact match. Broader terms have significant traffic, but not nearly as much. There is ONE ad on Google's 1st page from one major retailer. The keyword is both a buyer and an informational keyword.

Let us know your luck finding a coach or mentor. A lot of us have good ideas and are willing to work hard, but teaming up with someone with more experience and resources can put all the pieces together and make much more than before, and faster.

This strategy has helped me getting into real estate investing and speaking on stages as well. I guess IM-project-partners come from making friends in this arena and asking them to work on something for a revenue split.

Buying services and info products all by yourself only seems to go so far.

It's odd...it's a recent concept for me that some Marketers will help for a fee. Coby, I think it was said it in a thread. I thought there was some type of secret password, and then they would just magically want to help me in all my genius (tongue in cheek) like for free. I thought that's how people were learning and succeeding. Well, there is a secret password...it's MONEY.

Over at DP, I don't recall seeing threads with marketers for hire, you know? Duh!

amarketer made a good point. Keep your niche to yourself until you find someone you trust completely.

I'm assuming you have already procured the domain name. It sounds like you are looking at starting a "content-heavy", authority type site. That's a big undertaking. If you don't want to do it yourself, you may want to look into hiring a professional, licensed website developer. You will want to sign a "non-disclosure", and preferrably a performance contract.

Why not start small by adding your own content and outsourcing the SEO tasks. If it's a low competition keyword phrase, you should be able to get high in the search rankings relatively quickly.

One last point. Do some market research to see why there is only one advertiser in the search results. Little to no competition can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on circumstances. If your research proves that there is a related audience with one or more specific needs - go for it.

There's definitely some more research I need to do. I'm a little confused with domains and trademarks. I don't want any trouble. I may also be confused with good keywords and niches. :-/ My noob is showing!!! I'll keep you posted. I've got a question out in another thread. Hopefully I'll get an answer and be able to adjust my research accordingly.

I'm positive there are buyers. Here's an analogy. Not true, but it'll work.

This niche would be like Googling drumsticks and realizing there are NO dedicated websites or blogs pertaining to them. You know a kabillion people use them to play drums, but no sites save for articles scattered here and there. All those drummers are definitely buying. Not to mention all the how to drumming stuff and reviews that could be written.

The thing I gotta watch out for is...still using the analogy, I couldn't make my domain VicFirthing.com, right? Also...is the niche drumsticks or is it drumming?

      Make sense?

I've had several mentors over the years and I never paid any of them. What I did do was to first bring something to the table. An idea, project or something profitable.

If you do go with a paid mentor be sure to ask for credentials. What has s/he done? How much is s/he earning? And if they balk at sharing that info don't waste another moment. Find someone who's willing to prove their track record. Good luck.

Some marketers will indeed help for free - sort of. It doesn't necessarily cost you money, but rather a percentage.
What you want is coaching from someone who has a vested interest in your success - ie someone who will make money (or earn prestige) on the back of helping make you money.
It's not an easy thing to sell to most coaches, but try and get someone who will take a lower percentage as the years go by - when they sit down and think about it then it does make good business sense.

Well done on finding the niche. But as said above, don't go telling it to anyone until you're certain they're going to work with you.

You really are an inspiration for the beginning marketers that are trying hard with little success.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you find this niche? I don't mean anything specific, just what methods did you use? Any paid tools, or did you just type whatever came to mind into the Google Adwords Keyword Tool?

It was quite by accident. However, there might be a kink in the machinery. Read my last post above including the analogy.

In keeping with this analogy...let's just say...I got some new drumsticks for Christmas! So, I Googled drumming techniques only to find there weren't very many. Then I moved on to the Keyword Tool and did a little initial research.

    Congratulations!

As far as setting up a membership website there are a lot of options from free to low-cost to pretty expensive. It basically comes down to how labor intensive the whole process is for you.

If your web host includes CPanel you can actually set-up a membership that way. I've never tried it so I can't comment on how it works.

I have used Authpro. It worked great! And it was super easy!

I also know a lot of people use Wishlist and Membergate. I think they are a lot more costly.

As far as the marketing coach I would recommend Ray Edwards. If you go to RayEdwards.com I think you'll be in for a good surprise because I think he has a pretty low cost marketing coaching membership program where he covers all the basics and moves to advanced topics. Plus I think he has live calls where you can ask your questions.

Ray is a pretty big deal in the internet world and he definitely knows what he's talking about. I can tell you from personal experience he is an authentic nice guy. You will get value from his help.

    I hope this was helpful!

You'll see plenty of themes to choose from if you're looking to start up a site in an unknown niche.

Also, targeting a keyword with so much competition might not be the smartest idea when you're first starting out.

As for your question about the domain name. Do not get a domain that contains a trademarked company or product. This will get you in trouble and may cause the company to come after you to surrender the domain.

Instead, go for a generic term that is descriptive in some way of your niche. Using the drumstick analogy, it would be something like...bestprecisiondrumsticks or bestrockerdrumsticks, etc.
