What is better?

Having an affiliate website that promotes lots of companies in your niche

or

a website that only promotes 1 company?

For example,

If you had a website in the computers niche,

What is better - to advertise offers from 10 or 20 companies

or

just promote the 1 company?

If you have lots of companies all selling the same type of product, then there is more for the potential customer to choose from.

If you only have 1 company then it is easy to work out the conversion rate and see if it converts well.

What is the best way to go?

  In most cases I use a single affiliate. It could be Adsense, eBay, CJ, Amazon, Clickbank but it will be a single product or single product category that I promote in most cases.

I like choosing multiple companies. There are more for the visitor to choose from and you can put more content on your website describing the companies and comparing them. I have done both style with success but favor multiple options rather than one. Sometimes you will see buyers buying more than just one when you offer other options.

You couldn't do this if you focused on that one option. If you think about it how many stores and business give there customers just one service, one product, one price point? Give them options to choose from.

Have you ever seen an infomercial on TV? Or watched HSN or QVC? Visited Woot.com? By focusing on one product you can prevent visitor confusion/distraction. It depends on what your objective is with a site though.

I can see the benefits of both ways.

Having 1 product or company ensures the potential customer is laser targeted on that product.

Having lots of choices is a bit like a shop I guess.

There are plenty of shops that specialise in one niche market - but not many shops that sell just 1 product.
