Will reorganizing my blog hurt my status?

I have two blogs (one in an IM niche and one in a non-IM niche) that I have been posting to somewhat sporadically since 2009. I have been in a "learning binge" and now now many of the SEO mistakes I have made.

I do not want to change my domain names. I want to reorganize them to be easier to follow topics. I definitely want to use some of the articles that I have used before.

Will doing this cause me to be in trouble with Google? Not that I have a decent ranking. That is why I want to reorganize and redo my tags and rewrite slightly to get my SEO better.

I would appreciate any advice I could get.

Carol

What do you want to reorganize? Do you want to change the permanlinks? Or just the tags and titles and content?

Without knowing the specifics, I'd go ahead with setting it up properly. It is better to do this now, than build upon a poor foundation.

I altered some outgoing links on one of my WordPress sites about a week ago and it dropped from the number 1 spot for my prime keyword to the bottom of the page, it has just returned to the top again. However, I know some other people who've just experienced a bit of a Google shuffle back and forth, so it could have been this.

If you aren't really rating in Google at the moment, then now would be the time to make adjustments.

Changing tags, titles and content to improve SEO.
Changing categories to make the site more reader friendly.
      Will changing titles change permalinks?

You should have a custom permalink of /%postname%/ or /%category%/%postname%/ for the best seo. So, you will have a change of permalink if you want the best seo.

You can use the redirection plugin to redirect old post URLS to your new ones.

If you don't have a significant ranking, reorganizing won't matter. Just be sure to use 301 redirects so your existing links aren't lost in cyberspace.

I suggest that you effect the changes but ensure that your content is much more SEO'd, especially keyword in domain name and at start of title. Furthermore, relevant postings and links to high PR pages/sites in your same niche, always does wonders for your rankings.
