The Truth About NoFollow Backlinks!

Ok, so we have heard it all here. Some say that nofollow links have no SEO benefit, others say that they have a little SEO benefit, and a few say they are just as effective.

Which is it? What's the truth about nofollow backlinks? I'm asking this from an SEO point of view. I tried the search, but most of what I found was older information and I know that SE's change their minds about how they view what. So, today, what's the truth about nofollow backlinks?

Thanks for your great help!

NoFollow backlinks is part of a natural linking campaign. I'm not saying you should go out and get 50/50 do/no follow backlinks, but yes of course they help making this look natural - which is what all logic tells ud that google is after. They will reward your site for getting nofollow backlinks as well..

No/dofollow really is only relevant if you buy backlinks and of course want these links to pass link juice to your sites.. And to control how page rank is distributed internally on your website (disclaimer, privacy, about, contact doesn't need it, so make them nofollow).

I believe 1/3 no/do follow is optimal. But if you don't think too much about it, you'll most likely get the optimal ratio.

You won't get certainty on this subject. It's all opinion.

Certainly, a lot of the opinions are based on factual misinformation, but that's kind of universal throughout IM, you know? :p

The area where I used to come across this is with blog commenting. Having done the difficult and time-consuming part of identifying relevant blogs on which to comment, I don't now check any more whether or not they're no-follow, before commenting, because I get great benefits from those backlinks anyway.

Many search engines seem to ignore "NoDoFollow".

Many people believe that Google doesn't discount "nofollow" nearly as much as it sometimes claims: it's ambiguous at best.

People who have already decided that "no-follow" backlinks are no good for SEO won't be interested, but those like yourself who are a little more open-minded will find many threads here explaining/discussing interesting things about no-follow links: this one might start you off, and then there's more here, here, here, here, here, and so on.

    nofollows are not completely trash.
Nofollow links do help a bit in seo in my opinion.

Google may never clarify this but i dont think they have hardwired the system to completely ignore nofollow links, especially on websites which have all or most of the
    outbound links nofollow.

People simply dont understand that making all the outer links nofollow will not increase the serp, and as far as i know, maybe even have a negative effect.
