What to do with what I know?

This is a bit of a ramble so to let you know what you're getting yourself into, I am a young but experienced marketing professional. I am new to affiliate/dropship/list-building, etc.. I am looking for advice on learning resources/direction, and what kind of IM is best suited for me.

My background is in graphic design and branding. I worked as a graphic and web designer for a few years and still do this work on a weekly basis. I am also a skilled front-end coder, and I am extremely adept at building custom WordPress websites. I have a very good knowledge of modern marketing techniques such as AdWords, social media, SEO, branding, etc. I have not undertaken a serious SEO or social media campaign, though I have dabbled successfully, I am mostly "book-smart" in those areas.

A little over a year ago I quit my FT and started my own business providing these services to clients. Money is tight but I've been able to have my wife leave her job and raise our kids full-time, which was my main goal.

To put it bluntly - I feel like an asshole over the fact that I have all of these skills and this experience, but I'm not using it to promote anything of my own. My major goal now is to create some recurring income through IM.

I am NOT afraid to work long and hard, or to put in the time to learn. I am almost entirely self-taught in everything I do. I feel like I just need some direction though. I think that my major weaknesses are:
  • finding a niche
  • implementing off-site SEO (getting valid linkbacks)
  • understanding the different IM monetization strategies
Given what you now know about me, does anyone have any suggestions for where I can find some direction and what kind of IM models I should be aware of or would be suited to? Is the War Room a place where I would find help with these issues?

P.S. If anyone needs design critiques or technical help, especially with WP, I am happy to help in exchange for your advise - thanks!

Hey jtnatoli I know things can be tough when starting out in this field but as I can see you already seem to have most of the skills required for success. From what I understand you simply need some advice on which paths would be more fruitful and a heads up on methods etc that are working at the moment.

Your knowledge in branding and graphic design/wordpress is impressive and I think this will also help a lot moving forward. I am sending you a PM take a read in your own time and maybe we can work on some things together. I am more than willing to help you with the few weaknesses you talked about. Talk soon
