.info Domains? Just As Effective?

Hey Guys,

Do you think .info domains get indexed in the serps just as readily as .com, .net, or .org domains? I've heard mixed reports about this and wanted to get some of your feedback.

Thanks in advance...

Matt

G does not take the extention into consideration when indexing a domain.

.info is not a problem. I have a number of keywords ranked in top 10 for a pretty highly competitive finance niche.

I think most people stick with the .com, .net, and .org's because they are easier to remember.

If you are just setting up a landing page or a squeeze page, .info's work fine. I personally stick to the big 3 when I create a blog or a site just for the reason listed above.

I do not think Google judges on the domain if it is indexed or not. I guess this is something you are going to research a bit more.

Do they get indexed just as easily? Yes.

Do they perform as well as a .com in terms of search placement? A qualified yes.

Google has said that they don't make a judgment call on the top level domain type. However, there have been cases in the past year where .infos have been mass deindexed and then reincluded with extra algorithmic scrutiny. The .infos I have seem to have been less stable in results than comparable .coms but that could be due to other factors. I wouldn't buy another one except under some very unique situations, like somebody selling me a PR6 one for $10.

Beyond the search engine, you also have to consider the general public perception that .info's are spammy malware havens. This may limit what you can do with one.

Technically, all of the top-level extensions are for different subsets:
    .com - commercial
    .net - networks
    .org - organization (often non-profit)
    .edu - educational
    .gov - government
    .info - informational
    etc.

In reality, people can (and do) put just about anything they want on any domain with any extension.

That being said - I personally suggest that your MAIN site should be a .com if possible, but then you wouldn't necessarily have keywords in it. For "sub" sites (mini sites, blogs, products sites, etc), I would be more concerned with keywords and not so much with the extension.

I have alot of .info domains, but when I use them I do try to make the site more informational (like a traditional adsense site). The naming convention is there for a reason, and we have the choice to follow the guidelines or not... unless its inconvenient, I personally choose to follow the convention. Its just good netiquette

As far as I know.... there would be a difference.......

as many use cheap .info domain name to redirection and all.......

Its hard for .info to get indexed......

.com will get indexed pretty good and fast.......
