HELP! I cant upload new theme to my wordpress site.

I have downloaded a theme and I find it difficult to upload it in the .zip format as required and I keep getting error messages.

I am currently using FTP fileziller but it is taking too much time.

Any suggestion will be appreciated. thank you

    You could try uploading the zip file through your Wordpress dashboard.

      That was what I did first and I got an error message. I did this on my laptop and felt the problem could be from my computer and this was yesterday. I am using a public cafe and I got the same message. after series of tries, I decided to use the FTP option. though it is graudally uploading but it is taking too much time. I may have to buy one more hour

      The message is from the browser and it say site currently unavailable or too busy. and I get a button to retry...:rolleyes:

    Who said zip format is required???

    I've never uploaded anything (theme or plugin) in zipped format: I always unzip them on my computer and upload the unzipped files/directories via FTP - keeping the original folder structure, of course.

    Usually, it takes just seconds or a few minutes, the most, with huge themes. If your FTP is hanging for hours... then either
    a) there is something wrong with your internet connection
    b) or there is something wrong with your host
    c) or there is something wrong with your FTP settings
    d) or you don't know what you are doing

      Sometimes, when you download a theme in the zipped format, you may first need to unzip THAT first compressed file, and that will provide you with various "bits and pieces", PLUS another zip compressed file which you can upload, should you choose that method of installation.

      I suggest you unzip the file first to your computer and see what you get. If all you find are the uncompressed theme files, just follow Istvan's directions to upload them yourself.

      If you do produce another zipped file, you can either upload it following the Wordpress quick method, or unzip that as well, and again follow Istvan's directions to install it.

      You are right about that. It is my first time of doing it this way, using FTP.

      could you kindly explain it step by step on how I should upload it using the FTP.

      what I did was to unzip and extract to 'my document' and on the FTP , I located 'my document', right clicked and clicked on upload.

    You mean you right-clicked the MyDocuments folder??? - Tell me it isn't true
    That's sounds as you were trying to upload your whole MyDocuments folder... which, definitely, could take hours if you have as much stuff there as I do

    You have to locate the folder of the theme inside MyDocuments and right-click ONLY the theme folder...

      Sorry, I located the file in my document before uploading it. But it seem the theme is quiet large. it took me time to download it as well
