Socrates Theme Users Read This Now..Important

Hello Warriors,


I just wanted to let all of you know that might not at this point..that Socrates theme servers are under attack..this means if you made a word press website with the Socrates theme then it is most likely down, and has been since last night.

I just found out this morning that all of my sites are down..the only fix at this time is to switch back to the default word press theme to prevent possible ranking drops.

    Ranking drops have nothing to do with what themes you choose.

    And why are you using a theme that must phone home before it works on your site?

    You are telling me that Socrates theme is a security problem for any site that uses it? Wow!! Simply Wow!!

    And you folks want to pay to use that theme on your sites?

      It is obvious that you do not use the theme..if you did you would know what is going on right now..and about ranking drops..yes rankings will drop when your site is not online..seo 101

          You misunderstood me again..I was referring to the rankings..everything else you said is correct..I never posted this to try to tell people anything thing else but to check there sites if they was using the theme that's it !

          I guess it is a crime to try to help people on this forum..unless I have something to sell..why do people attack when all someone is doing is trying to help ?...I'm lost ??

    Not sure what you mean? Socrates is downloaded to your own hosting account server? Just in case, I checked a couple sites I have that use Socrates, and they are working fine. I would contact your hosting company, e.g. hostgator.

        1. How can you tell if a theme has to 'phone home' to authenticate?
        2. Are you just referring to an initial one-time authentication process? Or, is this something the theme does on a semi-regular basis?
        3. Does this have anything to do with the dashboard message telling me that a newer version of the theme is available? Is that how it knows to prompt me to update my theme?

          If the product fails when the authentication server is down, I would consider the creator of the product totally incompetent. (Customer-crippling paranoia counts as incompetence in my book.)

    Thanks for the heads-up Dumkist, fortunately I only have one half-built site now using this theme, but it is OK.
    Your site will drop like a brick in G if the server goes down, but not sure if it would make any difference at least in the short-term if the site would not load when a bot happens to be crawling it, perhaps someone else can enlighten us.


    @ Steve in view of what you said, this theme it is now going in the trash, I wish I had your technical know-how.


    @ Istvan, I know you are a whizz with Wp Istvan, and when you say something on here I pay attention, thanks for the advice

    There shouldn't be forgiveness for this kind of idiocy... Apologies are not enough. Everybody should ask for a refund and then dump the theme :p

      There shouldn't be forgiveness for this kind of idiocy...
      Normally, I would say that was an extreme reaction. Given the virtual phobia many people have about editing code, though, I'm not so sure.

      I have no problem with software doing a license validation on installation. For web-based stuff, I don't even have an issue with a check on a regular basis, as long as an authentication query on a downed server fails gracefully.

      This is just clumsy design. And, from what I hear, that's not something you'd expect from Dan.

      Want to bet this never happens with his products again?
