is paying for lead from companies a good idea? They seem to be pretty targeted and sites like LeadPile - Online Exclusive Lead Marketplace / Lead Exchange and www.buyleads.com seem like legit businesses. Any advice on these?

paying for leads is common practice and one of the best things out there if:

    - you know your leads are converting
    - you are constantly tracking your leads so that conversion won't drop

if you're in the money, why wouldn't you scale it up?

    Cheers,

Using targeted leads, traffic and targeted emails is a great way to build your traffic and your sales. Any visitors you get who opt-in become a part of your list as well as those who buy right away.

Not to mention that many people keep there emails and go back and read them later. Thus you have some residual feed from the paid traffic as well. Depending on your type of business you can find targeted leads, traffic and emails as well as guaranteed signups for your list.

The average cost to get a good opt-in subscriber is between $1.00 and $1.50 per subscriber. Look for a good company using white hat techniques and quality ad networks to develop their lists and you can't go wrong.

I won't lie and say that I am an expert on this topic in any form or fashion. With that being said, am I wrong for thinking that buying leads is not the best idea? I would think that the best (i.e. highest converting) leads would be those that came to you voluntarily. Those are the leads that are actually looking to build a relationship with you. If you buy leads, all they know is that out of nowhere you suddenly have their email address.

Paid targeted traffic is a great way to go if you can afford it. Just make sure you use reputable companies. There are a lot of them out there who don't deliver and the support on some is terrible. I outsource a lot of my SEO so it frees up my time to do what I am good at rather than wasting time on the mind numbingly boring and time consuming stuff. By doing that I maximize my ROI. If you find a way to contact me I have a ton of PLR products that I can select from to let you have free to help in any area of IM that you need help with. The contact us page of the sites in my signature will get you there easily. Hope that helps you

Once you've assured yourself that their method of generating leads is legit, try a small buy to see if the leads are profitable for you. If they are, try another small buy. If not, try another source.

When you find a legit service that profitably provides leads for you over 3-4 test buys, ramp it up.

Joe, it isn't like a heads/tails, all or nothing deal.

Yes, the very best leads are those you generate for yourself, generally.

But, with good source selection and proper handling, paid leads can be almost as good. And if I can generate $2 in profit for every dollar spent buying leads, I'm going to buy as many as I can. It doesn't mean I'll stop doing things like article syndication to get people to my landing pages, it just means I'm using multiple methods of getting people there.

Once they opt in, they're all starting at pretty much the same spot...
