Skype Problems Troubleshooting Procedures (Windows... - Skype Support Network

This page just helped me to restore my constantly crashing Skype today.

I was rather surprised to see the following in this list of possible fixes:

Reset Internet Explorer to Default

You can find instructions of how to reset Internet Explorer here. You can also try to delete temp internet files and clear cache. If possible, also disable or remove any unused or possible corrupted Internet Explorer plugins/add-ons (regardless of the web browser you set as default, Skype uses IE engines).

p.s. I did not do this, and I was still able to restore Skype to its working condition, following the guide for:

    It is odd.

    I've built a number of desktop applications with Visual Basic that utilize the Internet Explorer engine to access the web, however making IE your default browser is certainly not a requirement. The engine is embedded into Windows and will work the same regardless of what your default browser is.

    Makes you winder how Skype for the Mac or LINUX (which I am using right now) function without an IE engine?

    Thanks for the link, my Skype too was crashing every time I tried to type in it, and I re-installed to no avail etc. Like you, just deleting all the extra files in the Skype folder took care of it finally without having to make IE my default browser.

    Will definitely give this a try. Any hints for Skype on iPhone? CONSTANTLY crashing, so much so I'm thinking of getting rid of it.
