How do you find private clients to write for?

I've been using craigslist to find private clients all day and have had once person email me. Where do you guys find private clients? I know that you can find them on elance, but there is too much competition.

    I use Instant Lead Magnet for C-List clients. There are a ton of sites that pay 10-20 per article for writing (PM me if you want links). You could setup a WSO or product on DigiResults selling services to a max number of people (to help with their clients). Gig sites are great for upselling.

    I advertise on Gumtree. I get clients through forums such as this one. I get work from vworker. I get referrals from facebook, my website, through friends and so it goes.... I have 2 that have been with me for over 2 years.

      I found like 12 or 13 of the 20 private clients I have right now on Warrior Forum. Did a Warrior for Hire ad. Wrote a good sales letter.

      Keep your eye out for posts where members are looking for writers. Respond fast. Be proactive and you'll be fighting for air under your workload.

      I got all 20 of my PCs in less than a month. It's really possible!

    That's how I got out of the "$5-an-article" rut. I've moved on to better things now, but that system works. It isn't about getting private clients, per se, but it leverages the power of those who have private clients with deep pockets. Try it.

    @John Coutts - I read one review that you made about sending emails to SEO companies. I was reluctant to do it at first since I know that collecting emails/contact forms is a tedious job.
