Needing advice for new business model in 2012

Hey everyone!

I am getting a new job in the "real world" starting at the end of this year. This job will give me about $1,000-$1,500 extra every month to spend on building an online business.

I will also have about 3-5 hours every day to work on the business. I still live with my parents and have no other real important obligations besides the job, and I want to really focus on building a solid business.

I have been learning and testing different things in internet marketing over the past year, but have been basically unemployed for the past six months, and have not made any real money online. I have been focusing on getting a steady job so that I can get grounded first. I don't want to have a "desperate" approach to making money online, as I know that is a recipe for disaster.

Since I will have a decent amount of income coming in to invest and not a whole lot of time, I want to focus primarily on using paid advertising methods. I also want to outsource tedious tasks so I don't burn out and waste my time.

I have done a little CPA marketing before, and would like to pursue that and other types of affiliate marketing.

I am not interested in promoting Amazon products, doing SEO, adsense or creating my own products, at least not yet. I may sound crazy for discounting those methods but I want to focus on methods that I will enjoy doing. I am in no way saying they are not legitimate business models, obviously they make a lot of people money.

Over the past couple months I have started to build a list, but I don't really like the idea of having a list in the make money online niche when I haven't really made much money myself.

I don't want to build a list in another niche because the make money online niche is the only real big niche that I know anything about.

So, I would prefer to make some money first before building a list, but am open to suggestions otherwise, as long as they aren't shady.

My main areas of interest in internet marketing are paid advertising for CPA leads and other forms of affiliate marketing, video marketing and other social media sites and list building. I prefer the "make money online" niche, but I enjoy promoting any product in any niche as long as it truly helps people. I would like to be making a consistent $100+/day by six months into the new year.

So my questions are: What should I focus my main effort on first, and what would be a good rough action plan for this next year? Could anyone recommend a good mentor?

Thanks so much in advance! This forum has been very helpful to me, and I look forward to your responses.

In direct answer to your post - avoiding the necessary 'trial & error'
period of online business (or any biz for that matter) is honestly merely
a 'pipe-dream'. Due diligence is required for success in any undertaking,
especially one that involves an anticipated return on investment (ROI).

While affiliate marketing is one of the quickest and easiest ways to
'break into' online profits, there are some basic fundamentals that
must be learned and faithfully, and consistently applied.

Many quality resources and strategies are offered freely at online market
places like Clickbank and Click2sell, etc. Follow their instructions and a
reward for your efforts is probable.

However, the 'make-money-online' niche is well saturated, and
unfortunately, with too many of the WRONG products, strategies,
    and services.

I wonder how many Internet marketers are really tired of receiving
promotions from other Internet marketers that aren't worth the time
it takes to read the promotional material.

Far too many products fail to live up to their hype, and I've yet to find
ANY that actually delivers any substantial, CONSISTENT, profit - - - AS
    ADVERTISED ! ! !

I'm also tired of responding to messages sent by these marketers, hoping
to engage them in real dialogue about our mutual business endeavors,
only to have them bounce because they were generated by a 'no-reply'
    auto-responder!

Even attempts to reach these persons using the contact info from their
    ISP's has usually been unfruitful.

Consequently, I'm beginning today, a campaign against these types of
marketers by unsubscribing from their lists, and eliminating them from
my social networks. I'm also joining reputable FORUMS like this one,
where I know my thoughts will be received by credible colleagues.

I think it is high time for those of us within the Internet marketing
world to get REAL, by being honest and ethical in ALL phases of our biz!

We all hate to be scammed, but too few of us extend the same courtesy
to others when promoting numerous products. Are there any ethical
marketers who actually test products BEFORE promoting them?

Finally, before stepping down from my soap-box, I want to publicly
rebuke online market places like Clickbank (and others) for allowing
so many JUNK products to be promoted through their online market
    places without better censorship.

I KNOW that they offer a 60 day refund policy, and I fully appreciate
that (and would be much more at a loss if it weren't for that). However,
I think it's high time that they take it a step further.

They all should ban from their vendor lists any product that gets refund
requests that are related to customer dis-satisfaction over claims made
    in their sales pitches.

As for a recommendation for good mentor-ship, send me a PM, I'll direct you further.

I'm interested in hearing from my colleagues regarding this post. What
    are your thoughts on this?

    Thank you for your reply!

I would like to say that I am definitely not trying to escape the 'trial & error', as I have been doing that for the past year already. There are a lot of aspects about internet marketing that I truly enjoy. I am just wanting to outsource some of the more tedious tasks that will eat up my time since I will have the budget to do so.

I totally understand your feeling towards most internet marketers in the "make money online" niche, and I myself have been unsubscribing from many lists that don't provide real value.

Also, I definitely do not want to promote trashy Clickbank products. My goal is to help people succeed while doing the same for myself.

    I appreciate your comments.

ok, first i know you said you dont want to build a list, but i will be as honest as i can be here. you really need to change your thinking on that.

you say you will have a decent bit of money to invest for paid advertising. thats great. but here is why you need to build a list. with no list building efforts, all of your paid advertising MUST make a profit directly. Without building a list you get no second chance.

Basically you are wanting to just go buy cold traffic which is entirely possible and send it to some sales page and have it convert at a rate that makes more money than you spend on advertising. That is a very tough task, especially for a relative newbie.

When you build a list, you get multiple chances to make a sale, and those people that you advertised to yesterday, may make you money tomorrow or next week if you have them on a list.

Its about making your advertising dollars have a long lasting affect.

If you are willing to change your thinking on building a list, I will proceed with some other ideas, but if not I probably wont be much help. My decade and a half in online business has taught me that building a list is the way to go in almost any niche.

outside of building a list, the next best idea is to promote a residual income program of some sort that has a high pain of separation service. which means once you get clients into a system you keep getting paid.
