How Should This Newbie Start?

Hello all,

EDIT: I'd like to learn how to make my own income generating online presence - to take advantage of the skills I've used for others - but to now create my own stream of income from a site, blog, etc.

First - how I discovered your forum.
A few weeks ago, I was researching ways to earn a small amount of money quickly. One post from your forum was better than everything else I'd found. That post led me to sign up for an account at textbroker. For about two weeks now, I've been writing at a level four and am just tickled to have a little bit of cash rolling in each week. Having said that, when I write professionally I can only write fast enough to earn about $1 per hour. I'll take it, gladly - but I better find more ways to support myself.

About me:
I was self employed for years. Became increasingly ill. Closed business. No income for more than 18 months now. Textbroker is the first income I have had, truly.

My Abilities
I can write, as is evidenced by my new-found success above.
I can design very good html web sites.
My photoshop and illustrator skills are excellent.

Time
Time has to be flexible because I tend to get sick a lot.

With these skills - I'd like to somehow build a site that brings in an income. But I don't know where to start. I don't even know what options are available to me. I am aware that the articles I'm writing for others are used to earn money for other peoples' web sites - but how do they use them? (I really don't know how this works). I seem to have the skills - but I don't know how to put it together to make money.

GOAL:
Monetarily, if I could initially land $150 per month that I could count on, I would be in good shape. (If I could get good enough to bring in $1,500 per month, I would be completely overjoyed ! But I'll hold off on that idea because I don't know if it is realistic.)

Can you help me figure out where to begin?

Considering that you have experience in writing articles I think maybe micro niche blogs may work for you. There is tons of info on the forum, search for MNS, micro niche blogs, autoblogs.... and start reading.

      Hi,

I've looked into writing previously but after looking into it there are to many competitors willing to write for peanuts which de values what you have to offer!

If you can set up a webpage and a opt in form you can start making money easy from there! £1500 is well within reach too! I'm not saying it's easy but it can be done with hard work!

If you want to raise cash by writing articles you might want to consider running a warriors for hire thread. It can be a good way to raise money for future ventures.

You're a good writer - don't work yourself into the ground with Text Broker. Create a small portfolio of articles. Ideally you'd have some sort of blog to reference. Trawl the ProBlogger jobs board (and any other paid job boards) and apply for jobs.

I did this and now have two ongoing clients (which is all I have time for at the moment) from perhaps 10-15 applications.

    Good luck!

Is there a special place to post that sort of thing? (So many forums don't allow selling etc so I'm glad to learn this one does.) Thanks for that idea.

Wow, you folks are quick. My last post was directed to Rose - sorry if that was confusing. (Thanks for your further reply Rose)

Tomewer - that's useful info. Thank you!!

Mattie1 - That is so encouraging. I'd like to do something like that. I don't mind hard work - if I can actually make it work. Could you point me to any posts or sites that explain how such a thing is done? What would the purpose be for me to have them opt-in? What do I do with that info?

If your interested in Internet marketing or being an affiliate then first thing is not to buy any product which promises to make you rich overnight utter c#ap.

It's very difficult for me to explain in a post I am about to release an e book for newbies which is basically how I did everything step by step to make me money! I will give you a copy to review if you want and you can leave feedback for when I come to sell it!

By the way I am genuine and appreciate how difficult getting started is!

      Thanks

        RE: PM MESSAGES -
Someone here kindly PM'd me some useful info. I just learned that until I have 50 posts, I can not reply. I'll be reading your site tonight - and if there is contact info there, I'll send you a message via your site.

So please note that I can receive your PMs but I can't respond yet. Sorry.

TheOnlineStudent, I believe you mean well. I appreciate that it might seem ridiculous to think of such a meager income as "successful." But compared to where I was - this is indeed a step up. Knowing that it isn't ideal, I am here now to learn of better alternatives. Ideally, I'd love to create my own site, blog, or some-such that brings in a constant income. Something like that opt-in site, or micro niche blog etc, might work out. Until then, when my only source of support is a very small one, I will hold onto it with both hands. I lost "proud" a long time ago.

If you can make web page and have good graphic skills you can offer to build websites for people. Again I'm not sure of your skill level just going off what you said.

You seem like you have the writing thing down pretty good. You can write articles for other people. So maybe start up some type of article service.

You can also write niche articles and then sell the rights to them to other people. You can look for people who need content on their blogs and see if they are paying for writers.

I think if you do that you'll be able to hit your income goals.

With your health issues, you can't rely on being able to offer services regularly.

Instead, I would turn your writing and design skills into things such as:

    -ebooks
    -private label products
    -predesigned web site templates
    -membership web sites
    -writing templates

You can add affiliate programs to these to get 1,000s of other people selling for you on commission where you only pay when the sales come in. It can be automated so that it will make money even if you are resting in bed.

Hi. Fortunately for you, you're already ahead of the game. Since you can write you actually have more than one option. A niche blog is a blog that centers around a particular theme like dating, weight loss, gardening...and usually contains both product reviews and articles on various topics that fall within your niche. Niche blogs can be big or small. Large niche sites will usually transform into authority sites. Smaller niche sites are known as Micro-niche sites. The size usually depends on how profitable the niche is.

With niche blogs, you make money from getting traffic from the search engines (done based on what people are searching for) and list building (really common). There are other things you can do like sell ad space, sell your own product and more. The cool thing about niche blogs is that they also gain equity and can be bought and sold like houses on the housing market for lump sums of cash. The actual price is usually 10 or 12 times its monthly income.

Your second option is to have what's known as a PLR store. PLR stands for Private Label Rights and refers to content that people can purchase, modify, and use as their own. Like with a blog, the content that you produce for your PLR store is based upon what PLR topics people are seaching for in the search engines. You can also take request using the same kind of opt-in form that you use for a blog. You can also do things like run PLR specials. One thing that makes a PLR store diff. from having a blog is that you always get paid via Paypal.

Now, I would say that having a niche blog or several niche blogs on various topics is perhaps more profitable than having a PLR store, but I do know people who make full-time incomes from PLR stores alone, so I'm just making you aware of the option. I know some people who have niche blogs and a PLR store, but I would advise you to start with a blog first. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention is that both of these methods allow you to generate a residual income and to work around your own schedule.

In terms of training, I would recommend that you check out Unstoppable Affiliate by Andrew Hansen and Josh Stanton to learn more about niche blogging. Even though there is a coaching up-sell, you only need to main course to make it work. For training how on how to build a PLR store and the like, I recommend PLR ATM by Tiffany Dow. I hope this helps some.

    Good luck,
    Joey

    jot,

Of all of the options available, I would definitely pursue the creation of Private Label Rights content. In addition to that, perhaps consider being one of those who rewrites PLR. Someone suggested joining the War Room. I think that is pretty important, so that you can learn how to create and sell a good product here on this forum.

In my opinion, here are the fastest 5 ways to start making money online:

    1) Ebay

    2) Amazon Services

    3) Half.com

    4) Fiverr.com

    5) Selling ebooks for $7

Ever considered any of the above?

    Apologies for not replying sooner.

Thanks for the further ideas. Joey - thanks for explaining what some of the acronyms mean and suggesting where to start. Do you have an example of some of these PLR sites? I'm not sure I'm picturing it completely - but I would probably understand better if I saw an example.

Charles - thank you, too. If there's no fee to join, I'll be checking out the War Room tonight.

Randall, thanks. Let me get the negatives out of the way first: I ran out of anything sellable - so ebay, amazon and half aren't going to work presently. Fiverr.com is frustrating to me - because I had one client on there who loved me to death (had me recording scripts - using me as voice talent) but once his work was finished I had no other takers. I offered a wide variety of skills but finally gave up on Fiverr. Here's the positive part: The ebook idea - now there you have a new one on me. In fact, I might have a sort of eBook idea. But before I get to that I should explain what I've been working on ....

I have been researching micro niche building etc. The thing is, I don't want to do 100 micro niche sites, I'd like to do a few - but do them really, really well and make them about things I actually know and care about. Having said that, I found some fantastic keywords! One phrase gets 100,000 searches in the US alone via google every month. Another gets 60,000 in the US. Three others get between 1,500 and 30,000 searches in the US each. All five are somewhat related - or at least all under the same umbrella, generally. (EDIT: FORGOT TO MENTION - my main keyword only has 4 other sites on Google using my keywords as a title. The others have similarly small competition. I can get on the front page with each of them. Hurray!)

I took the biggest key phrase and registered both a .com and .info domain. I found an offer for cloud hosting here on the forum for about $2.50 per month and am going to buy that as well.

Then, I found a very old book in the public domain (yes, it really is) that I am going to reformat and present as an ebook. (I have page layout skills - Adobe InDesign) It relates to my above topics. I don't know if I should offer it for sale, or use it as a freebie for some other purpose. I suspect I would be smarter to put it up for sale.

My next step, I think, is to start writing articles for my micro niche. But, I'm a little confused because I read TOO MUCH now and am getting baffled - therefore I'm freezing up in a little panic. I'm wondering if using the 100,000 view key phrase should be its own site all by itself? Should the 60,000 view key phase have its own separate site, too? Or, should I do as initially planned and put all the keyphrases as pages inside of the main site?

The other place I am getting baffled is how to monetize this site. :-O I know, that is the most important thing for me, but I'm suddenly confused. My key phrase isn't exactly a product that I can get a commission on, nor can I personally sell it myself. However, it is something that is purchased quite a bit. Sadly, the specialized sellers DO NOT seem to offer affiliate programs. There are some books on ebay about the subject, but the books are a little more general and not EXACTLY about the subject. It seems to me that people are crying out for good books about this topic, but there are around 4 at most on Amazon. (Not all rated well either) One day I would LOVE to write a book about this topic and I do have the ability to do so. However, I can't do that right NOW. So ... then I go back to thinking of ways to monetize this site. Google adwords alone? I don't want to put a million links all over the site / page because I think to do so is tacky and will turn away more clickers and buyers than it will keep. (I personally will leave any site that looks too "monetized" because I figure the author is just trying to trick me into believing they're an authority on the topic.)

Am I missing some other way to monetize the site? Should I just do the eBook and some google ads?

PS: Mattie - I signed up at your web site, but only received one email confirming more was to follow. Was I supposed to get anything else?

PPS: Garland, thanks for the encouragement. Would have liked to tried your meeting today, but am unable to take the leap and sign on under your program yet. Thank you for suggesting it - I hope to try it after I earn a little first.

I still can't PM (less than 50 posts) so my apologies for public messaging here.

You're thinking to small. All successful people have a vision, so you need to grab one. All the things you do after developing your vision are steps you take to achieve your vision.

You've got everything it takes to make as much as you want, any time you want it.

Putting all the BS aside you only need 3 things to be successful using the internet to generate income.

    1. Traffic
    2. Conversions
    3. Trust

    - Blog about your illness
    - Go to where others with similar problems hangout
    - Collect their e-mail addresses
    - Auto respond with your best related, relevant articles
    - Upsell your e-book or site access to the cure for your common illness

Once you have your site in place come back and show us your stuff. WF is the best resource on the net. Folks on here will help you.

PS: Stories and cures about health issues sell like hot cakes when they come from the horses mouth.

Do you mean all of the ideas in this thread are too small? In addition to your suggestion re: health, do any of the other ideas in this thread strike you having the potential to be made bigger / big enough?

      Would like to understand more.

If you can write and create a word press site... I'd use the Goobert2.0 method.

Traffic is free (no seo, no paying for traffic and it's fast traffic)

It's conversational marketing using google alerts based on your blog topic.

You receive alerts via email when news is posted on the web about your topic.

It only takes a daily commitment of 15-20 minutes per day to do five little steps to keep your blog humming.

You can easily earn $1,500 - $3,000 a month from just one blog alone.

There is also a product called AffiliatePilot system that is the same system, but it has videos to show you. Goobert2.0 is just a PDF.

Both are very good and are proven systems.

        No products to create
        No JVs to beg for
        No list building
        No software needed
        No copy writing skills needed
        No SEO
        No PPC, PPV
        No creating landing pages

Just writing your opinion and making a few blog comments/posts.

My suggestion after reading most of what is here....you have an elderly ebook that you will re-format and put out as new...great! Use that as a free giveaway on a site that you construct HERE in Wf in the correct forum...advertising your prowess as a write, author, builder, etc. This cost you ZERO....and, if the usual occurs, business will come your way very quickly.

Also, the one thing I recommend you buy and that is a War Room membership on here. It is very worth the one time lifetime fee. There is a lot of great free stuff in there.

I don't know if you notice but a lot of the posts on here are talking about buying something... an ad post or even an ebook. Plus, if you want to start a website that's domain and hosting fees (unless you want to find those for free - which is entirely possible, just prepare for some extra work getting visitors to your websites). I'd recommend the same as those who said to get some free gigs first to earn some cash, at least enough to earn some money. It's quite easy to lose a bit of money on your first website before gaining any. Of course, for a hardworking guy like yourself, there's plenty of free information that could help you get a start. If you're dead-set on blogging of some sort, I think Squidoo and other blogging networks can help start you off for free. Good luck man - between your skills and attitude, I'm sure you'll be successful.

    Wish you the best,
    Dave
