Easy $100,000+ in 6 to 12 Months from just one Premium Domain Name - IllinoisEngineers.com!

I went on domain name hunt last year looking for very good premium domain
names around States/Cities/Occupations in the US and found what I consider
a rare gem - IllinoisEngineers.com

I slapped a few mediocre articles on it and just allowed it to age, with plans to
do something about it when I had the time. Of course I got carried away, but now
I plan to get $100,000+ from it in the next 6-12 months. Yes, yes, I know... I am
on crack, right? Well, before concluding on that, please take the time to read
my plans and let's talk. We can all learn something from this, especially with the
comments and thoughts that other more seasoned warriors will have to share here.

I absolutely look forward to reading your sincere thoughts on this and what you
would do, better than what I plan to...

First things first, I consider it a premium domain. Not only is it just 2 words,
Illinois is the fifth most populated state in the US. Are there big engineering
companies in Illinois right now that will love this domain? Absolutely. But I don't
plan to only sell just the domain name. I plan to develop the website into a huge
authority website that engineers in Illinois will find useful and be flocking to.

Secondly, IllinoisEngineer.com (without the "S") is currently the main website
of the "Illinois Society of Professional Engineers", I still wonder why they
didn't snatch up IllinoisEngineers.com as well because I notice my website is
getting LOTS of visit from people who type it in directly, obviously wanting to go to
the main website of "Illinois Society of Professional Engineers". I also notice my
website got PageRank of 2, from just one backlink on a site which tried to link to
the original IllinoisEngineer.com but made a mistake and added the "S"

Anyway, my plans for this site, in the next 6 to 12 months, include...

Assign 2 or more of my best staffs who I will still work closely with, to...

1. Create a huge authority community kind of website that engineers in Illinois
will call an "online home" that they will be visiting always, for networking and
sharing ideas, etc, with fellow engineers within and outside Illinois. AND of course,
also make the website suitable for people searching for engineers for their various
engineering projects in Illinois. I am confident that lots of ideas will come up along
the way on making this a MEGA online engineering community in Illinois.

or

2. Create a huge authority CONTENT kind of website with hundreds and even
thousands of 100% unique articles and curated content about and around
engineers, engineering, jobs/schools for engineers, etc, that many people - both
the engineers and people looking for engineers in Illinois, will find helpful.
And make the site rank for lots of engineering related keywords in Illinois.

Then after working to achieve the above in at least 6-12 months, with impressive
traffic numbers to show, I will then attempt to sell the site for at least $100,000
to any of the big engineering companies in Illinois! After all, why wouldn't a big
engineering firm love to own a website that not only has an impressive 2 word
premium domain name but also has tons of visits from engineers who call it home,
and also tons of visits from people who are looking for the best engineers in
Illinois for their various engineering related projects?

It can be as simple as contacting many of the best engineering firms in Illinois
and linking them all back to the Flippa auction I will set up for the sale - so they can
go and bid/outbid themselves. Heck, a bidding war could even happen which
could massively increase the final price of the site.

After all, what is even $100,000 to the best engineering firm in the fifth most
populated state in the United States of America, right?

What do you think? Is my plan realistic/attainable... or can you suggest even better?

Or am I just a bloody warrior/dreamer on crack

Please share your thoughts as I am sure lots of us here will learn a lot, especially
those who might have similar plans for similar City/State/Occupation domain names.

    It is a very good plan if you do a very good job at it. I know one guy that did something similar to this except he target every single state. He got offered about 15,000 dollars for his website within 6 months if I remember correctly.

    Google "security guard training". The very first site you see is the one I'm talking about. He declined the $15,000 offer because he knew he could make more money with it if he decide to run it himself. I think hes charging security guard bosses to post their ads on his site.

    Another thing I want to mention is that he outsource it all. Go check out his site if you got time.

      Indeed your post helped, I checked the site and I like what he's
      doing with it so far. Impressive. It's encouraging to hear he's even
      doing better with the site instead of selling it. Do you know how
      the site is doing for him financially now?

        I don't know where all your content is going to be coming from, but I'd suggest something other than PLR or outsourced Bs from non-US speakers.

        I think your best chance is to get Illinois Engineers to write your content. How?

        Create a statewide forum so that engineers have a way to talk "shop" with one another.

        Professional groups are often somewhat "closed" to the public - I think that is where your best opportunity lies.

          You are right about having the content created by US speakers.
          That's not a problem as I have writers based in the US,

          And as per your tip to get Illinois Engineers to write my content,
          that's my first plan above - create the community for them on
          the site and provide all they need to "to talk "shop" with one another".

          Can you explain more of what you mean by "a statewide forum"?

        You're in luck. That site belongs to Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income blog. He actually creates monthly income reports so you can see exactly how he makes his money.

        You can view it here.

        Looks like he made about $2,200 from it last month, mostly through Adsense.

    I think you can expect to hear from lawyers representing the Illinois Society
    of Professional Engineers once your site pops up on their radar.

      Yes, I was thinking that you ought to try to get all the Illinois engineers to your site by giving them a forum (sort of like the Warrior Forum) where they could talk about various issues related to engineering. vBulletin is a popular forum software that would enable you to start getting the conversations going.

      I think TSnyder is right - you need to be careful about being seen as syphoning traffic from IllinoisEngineer. If your site gets popular and/or confuses folks trying to get to the other site, you will probably hear from their lawyers.

      I would suggest you contact an intellectual property rights attorney (or trademark attorney?) about this issue before you sink much time or money into your plan. You could end up getting sued or at least having the domain taken away.

        Thanks TSynder and Steve for your concerns about this but I don't
        think this will be an issue, because of many reasons:

        1. They don't own the trademark of "Illinois Engineers" nor did they
        once own the IllinoisEngineers.com website. Even if they do own the
        trademark, there are still ways to protect my use of the domain. Their
        main website is actually - ILSPE.com .

        2. I am setting up my IllinoisEngineers.com website to be a website
        for Engineers in Illinois, not a website trying to profit off ILSPE. I
        didn't register the domain because of ILSPE but because I want to
        create a community or content site for engineers in Illinois. Whether
        I plan to sell the site at the end of the day to any engineering
        company in Illinois shouldn't matter.

        3. Visitors may have visited my site thinking they are going to ILSPE
        site (not my fault, of course). That can be fixed by simply having a
        message on my site, when it's fully operational, telling people that
        it's not affiliated with ILSPE and "if you want to visit ILSPE, click here"

        4. My site will of course FULLY work with and acknowledge ILSPE,
        as it's the main body for all engineers in Illinois.

        ETC

        Of course I don't have all the facts about this now but I do have some
        years training as a lawyer in the University... so I think I know what
        to do when that time comes... IF it does comes,
