As with most things, it depends.

What type of niche is the product in?

Essentially it comes down to two main options:

    1. Use a service like Clickbank, DigiResults, Nanacast, Commission Junction etc to handle all the affiliate stuff.

    2. Use software like DAP to manage the affiliates and affiliate payments yourself.

Option 1 is definitely the easiest option, although the downside is you pay fees/commissions.

Option 2 is useful if you want full control over the management of your affiliates, but it does take a lot more time in setting up and maintaining everything.

      DAP = Digital Access Pass

WordPress Membership Plugin - Membership Script For WordPress Blogs And Regular Web Sites

It is a relatively complex piece of software with a lot of options. It is primarily for building membership sites, but has all the affiliate management integrated.

I'm the founder of a nutrition & health company and our first product is a high-end specialty energy food. I'd like to find an affiliate management software program with the following characteristics:

        1) supports affiliate cookies (I prefer the "last cookie wins" setting but I'm open to input here) so we can track who referred the new customer
        2) supports coupon codes (i.e. customer can get a percentage discount, free shipping, etc.)
        3) supports PayPal to pay affiliates either a flat rate per sale or a percentage of sale
        4) supports cookie expiration timeframe (i.e. 30 days, 60 days, never)
        5) easily integrates with our existing website; today our customers pay with credit card (and sometimes with paypal) through our paypal integration
        6) supports many products/services (i.e. as our company rolls out new offerings, these can be tied into our affiliate program)
        7) supports a membership site; we plan to roll out a paid membership site and are also looking for a software program/service to support that offering; plus we expect our affiliate program to be able to pay out commissions each month to affiliates who have referred customers to our membership site.

From the thread above, it sounds like DAP is a possible solution. I started to look at the DAP features/functionality from the link above, but before making a decision I'd like to hear if there are any other recommendations for me.

Thank you in advance for any more suggestions or advice!
        Matt

You can also try e-junkie.com. Very affordable and easy to add to any web site.

e-junkie is probably going to be rather elementary for most people.

It's definitely workable if all you want to do is to quickly offer a couple of "downloads" without having to setup anything on your web site, and just want them to go from the buy button to quickly accessing a couple of files, and be done with it.

Also good enough for those just getting started and testing the waters, or those with very minimal content delivery needs. Also, e-j does not support recurring payments from what I know. So you may want to check that out too.

So e-j is not recommended if you want to create a proper "Members-Only" area, where your members/buyers come to *your* site to consume your content, rather than go to a 3rd party site like e-junkie.com to download 1 or 2 of your files.

There are thousands of reasons why you would want people to come to your site to consume your content, where you control and publish your content any which way you want - like embedded videos, audio files, articles, blog posts, sneak-peek of content for SEO, content dripping, OTO's, Upsells, etc. Which is where having a membership plugin like DAP (discl: I'm the founder/co-developer of DAP) running on your own WordPress site, comes in very handy.

    Hope this helps.

i've used DAP for a membership site in the past together with paypal and optimizepress. it worked and looked great.

another option is nanacast which i use currently for my membership forum which also has a great and reliable affiliate system built-in.
