Fellow Warriors,

Need some help or direction to know if I'm doing things correctly. I have created FB Fan Pages that capture leads via Aweber. The problem I have is that my opt in rate is barely 1%. For every 1000 fans I get maybe 11-12 opt ins on average. Does this sound right? Or should my opt in rate via FB be much higher? By 1% I mean people who visit my static frame landing tab in FB and decide to subscribe to my emails via FREE ebook.

1-2% is an awesome average subscription rate. Remember not to think about it as a daily or weekly amount, think about your following growth in terms of 1 year. How many followers will you have in 1 year? Newsletter is the type of an Internet marketing technique that is used as a long-term strategy.

    How to increase subscriptions

1-2% is what you usually get if your subscription form is integrated directly into the content of your site, say, in the upper left (or right) corner. You can increase this rate by placing an "upfront" newsletter sign up form that fades the screen to black (like on one of my websites about how HTML tags works) and gives the user a choice to either close it and move forward to the content, or subscribe. This is an extremely powerful technique, and I wish I used it earlier on all of my sites.

I am a web programmer myself, so it was easy for me to set this up using Javascript, Ajax, PHP and MySQL database. They have online products that let you create and manage your form. If you are not a programmer, and you'd like some help, let me know. I can install a sign up form like this on your site for a small amount of money.

I can't tell you exactly by how much % your newsletter subscription rate will increase, because it depends on your niche and traffic type. But I can tell you that it will increase by a significant amount of subscribers. It's just one of those things that work

    My personal result...
Not only did my newsletter subscription rate jumped up by some 500% (I am not kidding you), but the bounce rate of my pages, where that form was located, surprisingly experienced a decrease. People saw that I had a newsletter and felt that there was a guy doing something more than posting random articles on his blog... and they became more engaged with the content of my site. I suffered no traffic loss or any SEO "penalties".

    More on your current situation

11-12 people, wow.. imagine, that there are 12 people at the door to your house lined up to receive the content of your newsletter.

    That is awesome!

Newsletters are known for very high conversion rates, if you write great content for the friends who subscribed to your newsletter.

Imagine... if you post super amazing newsletter content with links to educational articles, and tutorials... that will surprise, educate or entertain your subscribers... You open up the potential to having 12 loyal subscribers sharing it with their friends.

So... I'd say that while you can probably increase the rate at which people sign up, don't treat what you already have as if it is not valuable. Because I believe that is much more important to focus on.

    Also.. a little off-topic, but

All of your subscribers should matter, otherwise it's not worth writing content and sending it to people, if you don't really care about them. Subscribers should be treated like friends, not some statistic.

Something is wrong with your offer or sales funnel. What you should do is do some tweaks and split test it. Make it clear what people get if they opt-in and give them a strong call to action. Don't make the capture page look too complicated as well. If it's like that, people will just like and not opt-in. For now, what you should do is change some of the wordings at least and make things more specific and clear.
