lack of focus is the issue

been thinking about this one for a long time, but i think what holds so many people back is the lack of focus on one business model and not believing in themselves.

Here's the scenario, buy into an idea, a wso, a course, the next big thing, trying it out, not giving it enough time and then seeing something else and going after that, then not giving that enough time....

it's a vicious circle and then what happens? you get down on yourself and feel annoyed about being fooled by the next big thing, until you get that email

this vicious circle can happen again and again and again.

there's also the element of self belief and belief in general. can people really make this money? they must be brighter than i am!, i can't do that, and herein lies the self belief and self confidence.

for many internet marketing is lonely, sitting at home, working your but off to make a few dollars and then assessing that the amount of hours, weeks and months that you have put is not paying off.

what advice would you give to people who feel like this?
what advice have you taken when you felt like this?

what's your solution or answer!

You hit the nail on the head. Limiting beliefs are a large part of why some cannot ever find the path to success.

OO i think so too, there's plenty of ideas, plenty of strategies but all it takes is for your mind to say i don't think that would work, sure it might work, but i don't know

and then you're snookered so to speak

how would you break that or have you broken that negative thought

  • If I can use the analogy of filling water into a half a dozen cups (the cups representing “the next big thing”) One will never fill a cup fully if he or she is moving from one cup to the other.

“That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do; not that the nature of the thing itself is changed, but that our power to do is increased.

I think that it's important for people to take into account their skills and what they truthfully are willing to do. If you are extremely shy and hate cold calling, then it's probably not a good idea to jump on products that feature that until you feel that it's something you will put into action with confidence. Once they assess those things, they can better put effort toward something that they have a high chance of working through.

In addition to confidence, desperation definitely plays a big part in things. People need to get their offline life sorted before dumping funds into the online world. Once you have your finances in order, it's easier to not get pulled in by the next big thing (as you don't need money NOW and can focus on the long game).

So....I think that taking those two items into account will help slow down negative thinking and actions with IMing (is IMing even a used term? Ha!)...

hum yes i do like this to sort out your offline life first, so many have problems in the offline life that they think they can build a new persona i guess online and that the two can be seperated but you´re right it´s not true

you need to have the mind in the right place and work from there

I think reasons and emotions attahced to it play a very big part with building focus. The more reasons we can find to support why we would want to choose one method over the other, the stronger our emotions will be, which drives us to persist and pursue.

Sometimes by reverse engineering a goal from a particular method can help to see why we chose that method in the first place and find more reasons to support this goal. Hope this helps

So if people don´t have a big enough reason to do it they won´t follow through

what if they have a huge reason but just can´t follow thru

sure we´ve seen the sales letters in the format of "down and out turns their life around" etc etc

but what if you do have a good reason but just get blocked, stuck, hit a wall, then what

what if you have finally become saturated by the muck that´s out there that is promising untold riches and you´ve tried it and tried it and nothing has worked, but you have tried..

          just playing devils advocate here

Everyone has reasons for doing what they choose and like you said, a lot of them have a good reason to it too and that's great! Having one good reason is a good starting point. However, we will find more reasons to why we chose a particular goal we are passionate about as we go along.

We are gonna be faced with obstacles we see as problems. This is when, by having more reasons, we build on our emotions and beliefs, which strengthens our focus.

We all have several goals we want to accomplish and maybe by finding the one that has the most reasons, would help narrow down to what we can build focus on

I like it a lot Shane, very interesting

it really is all about mindset
understanding what we are capable of
which a lot of people dismiss

as henry ford said (more or less) if you think you can you can, if you think you can´t then you are right.

It all depends what´s going on in your head, if your head is all over the place no matter if you work online or offline you will not get the best results

I think the advice of sorting yourself out first, knowing what you want and planning are very important before jumping in on the next big thing.

To be honest, there is probably very little original thought out there, many of the courses you buy now, or books you read are continuations or building upon ideas that have already been discussed.

this is very true in the self help industry, where many of the top earners are all saming the same thing fundamentally but with a new twist.

this too can be the key for you. Find an area you are good at and then put your twist on it, i guess that´s really where the proper use of PLR comes in

True, very true coach! I like the way you put it, direct and straight to the point

I have a huge white board in my room. When something is troubling me but i know the answers are at the back of my head, i'll head to the white board and mind map whatever reasons and ideas that come to mind. Sometimes, i even have to take a snapshot of it, erase the board and continue! Ha Ha!

When i find something thats well laid out, i'll leave it on the board so that it's the first thing i see in the morning.

      Cheers

looks like we are on the same wave lenght

regarding what you said that the answers are at the back of your mind it´s true

every met someone and then thought what is their name, you forget about it and then bingo you are doing some unrelated and you think John, that´s his name

the mind works away and thinks about what ever we put into it. Thus this can work in a very positive way, however very distructive as well, if you think you can´t succeed in IM then you put that thought in your mind and your brain works away finding reasons why you are actually right

so becareful about what you think about....

Agreed. The key is to get one success fully active. Until you do that, your level of belief will only be able to go so far.

Focus on getting that one offer or site or product to start bringing in some revenue, though, and all of a sudden your belief in yourself and your ability to make IM work suddenly takes off.

Hi you asked this question. I think this is one of the most important but overlooked questions that most of us fail to address. Its great to put in lots of effort and to focus on our chosen area, but what's peoples' view of getting around to WHAT to focus on.

Its sort of parallel to being clear about your 'purpose'.

I'd like to hear more about how we decide on what to focus on....

      all the best

        Great discussion going on here

Let me just add one point to it regarding "there's also the element of self belief and belief in general. can people really make this money?"

For anyone feeling held down by this self-belief, in my opinion, the surest way to evaporate it is to persevere with whatever your project is... until you finally make that first dollar.

I suspect I'm not the only one when I say this - when you've at last made that first dollar online, you instantly know... almost for sure... making a living online truly is possible.

I think too that lack of focus can be a problem. In my opinion, lack of focus can happen when the person has not gotten yet to a method that worked well.

The advice of course, for myself and others who find it hard to concentrate on one thing is to focus.

If something is going on in your offline life that is bothering you then chances are your online work will be greatly effected.

You can try to ignore it while you are working online but the truth is that the issue will still be at the back of your mind which will limit your ability to work at your full potential.

As mentioned in the posts above, in order to move forward, for a person to create a success in their life, (whatever it may be), he/she needs to have their offline life sorted out.

I'm not saying that it isn't possible to make a success of yourself if your whole offline life is a mess because this is definately not so.
You can achieve anything you want to if you put your mind to it but I do think it will take much longer and will be just that more difficult.

Esentially, your working on two big projects at once. Trying to get your life in order and trying to build a business, (offline or online).

I have total respect for those who have had to work through traumatic times in their lives and have not only come out of it still smiling but have also made a success of themselves in their chosen field.

what to focus on, and how to find the right thing are the interesting issues

too many people buy into the im market, buy some mmr and then resell to others, heck i've refused to coach people who were selling im products and had never made a buck but were sticking up sales pages regarding how to make an online income!

firstly i guess start with something you know about and do your research to see if theres a market, these days there's a market for nearly everything

from there learn the basics of affiliate marketing and driving traffic. set yourself a target of how long you are going to stick at your chosen market. you don't want to pull out after a week, but then again you don't want to persisit at it for ten years and make no money

listen to what others have said, perhaps join a mastermind or forum to get help from like minded people. you don't necessarily have to pay 400$ a month for the mastermind, at this point also decide how much money you can spend on such a thing.

from there ask for and give support from and to others

    that's a start anyways

      Good post!

I think the biggest obstacle in becoming a successful IM'r is making the decision to stick with one business model and not paying attention to the other stuff that gets promoted to you. That was the tricky part because almost every WSO looked like it was going to work but as I tried many different methods and failed at many (learned alot), most likely because I didn't focus 100%, I learned that this was part of the process of figuring out what worked for me. It's like studying a certain subject then finding other books who talk about the same subject but with a different perspective. There are bits and pieces which make the puzzle complete in this game.

I discovered that the keys to success was as simple as this:

      1) pick one IM'r that you want to model
      2) learn seriously about what makes this IM'r successful
      3) model the IM'r

People copy each other all the time because to become successful, you have to know what success looks like. After you have become that model, tweak it and sign it with your personality because, listen, the source of success is a naturally driven principle grounded on a solid foundation. That foundation could only be developed if you know what it is AND it is NOT what you see on TV.
