Please Help: Site Flipping Topic Choosing

Hi all,

I've learned a lot about site flipping and bought some ebooks but I can't seem to find a good resource or info on how to choose topics that will be good for flipping.

If anyone could give me some advice here I would really appreciate it.

To find for a suitable niche, I suggest you look at what type of sites (and their niches) are selling on marketplaces.

You will get some basic rough ideas before you actually go deep into keywords research etc.

I just go to sitepoint, and watch what is selling there. Meet the demand.

edit: desmondblog beat me to it. - good advice.

      LOL.

Anyway, you can always try to make or buy sites that out of your common sense are popular. Some examples are fitness, diets, abs, green tea, debts you get the ideas.

Many people came to me and asked me what niche to start on, and honestly, I think you can start on any niche that you think has a large volume of audiences.

For example, I know a lady who sold a Twilight (the movie) blog for $700.

Thanks for the information guys. I have watched sitepoint but do you want to sell the same type of site topic that has already been sold? So let's say someone sold a site about anxiety. I would create similar? I guess I'm wanting to know how you find the niche that not only is popular but that can be ranked well. I mean I know about going to google keyword tool and finding keyword phrase that has say 1000 traffic and results less than 10,000 but finding these is very difficult I'm finding.

    Hey Veros,

When I read this post, I interpreted it more as an excuse not to take action than a genuine concern that would keep you from making money.

Not to be harsh, but the only way you'll ever actually make money is to give things a shot. Create a site, sell it, see what happens. Why not? Your investment is $7.41 + $6 for hosting.

I make a decent living online. Here's how I did it: I tried many, many many things until I found one that stuck. It's kind of like throwing ideas on a wall, taking action until you find one that really makes you money. Then you run with it.

Believe me there were failed projects along the way.

    Yes.

The thing is that you have to sell what people want to buy. What do they want to buy? Dog training, yoga, weight loss, dating, forex etc...

Yes, these are very competitive niches and if you are doing a long term flip and trying to get the site earning money then you should probably stay away from them.

For a "startup site" flip you kind of need to stick to the popular topics. You could always do a sub-niche such as "dog clicker training" or "weight loss for men" but through trial and error, I've found that the buyers seem to go for the really competitive niches ... go figure.

Like Derek says, the key is to just make one. Don't get bogged down in finding the absolute perfect keywords - remember your buyer can always add articles with his own keywords to the site. Just get a site up for sale and test the waters!

I'm looking for quick flips. Derek: you are right! I need to just do it but I'm the type of person that likes to do things right the first time which may not be good for this business so I will work on that. Thanks for the great responses... I think I'm ready to rock and roll

One more question: I just noticed there are a few people that just flip sites with amazon / ebay stores tied to them. It seems that would be faster than writing unique articles. Have you guys done any flips like that?

I'd stay away from ebay. They're being very particular about who they accept and you may end up selling a site and then the buyer can not get accepted into ebay. Then what do you do, take the site back or tell them tough luck?

My guess is you are they type that would take the site back and give them their money back so now you've wasted a ton of time plus listing fees and you have to relist the site. Of course, you could always state that the buyer must already be an ebay affilaite but then you cut out a lot of potential buyers.

Amazon would probably be OK though - I've not heard of them rejecting people like ebay does.

I used to sell sites that were loaded up with videos, amazon, ebay, yahoo answers. The sites were generated with scripts. They don't sell for as much as the unique content sites and I just felt like they wouldn't be as profitable for my buyers so I stick to just content sites now.

I often pick topics from ezinearticles categories. Obviously I'll do a bit of research on whatever I choose before making the final decision, but generally a category will only exist at ezinearticles because there's money in it.

I must be the only site-flipper in the world who has never done dog training, acne, yeast infections or dieting (I may remedy this sometime, just for the hell of it) and running out of ideas hasn't started to worry me yet. Ezinearticles also has a (partial) RSS feed for each of their categories, which can help if you're thinking of including any automated content, although the categories can often be a bit too broad then to be useful - for example, you can't pull anything from the soap-making niche with pulling everything else from the hobbies and crafts category too.
