Oswald, As a newbie myself, I feel your pain. Your motivation is money, as much as you can make! What I have done to help me stay on track is to find someone who is successful in Internet Marketing and talk to them and hopefully learn something. The person that I have made contact with is Jeff Lenney. Jeff Lenney - Homepage & Portfolio. He is great. Jeff's specialty is SEO. Free traffic from search engines. In my opinion, SEO is one of the more complicated aspects of Internet Marketing. Jeff's 9 to 5 job is SEO, but he is making his name (and a few extra bucks) in Affiliate Marketing using his SEO skills. You can also follow Jeff on Facebook: Jeff Lenney | Facebook. I hope that helps a little bit. Just keep your head up and keep trying. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.

looks like post #2 trumps me ... Seek out an accountability partner on this forum that will push to to do what you need to do.

No, not someone to guide you. You guide you.

You need someone to report to, who also reports back to you what actions you have taken to improve your business - or in your particular case what actions you have taken for the week to drive traffic to your site. That is all the accountability partner is.

Make a list of ways to drive traffic.
Make a schedule of what new way you are going to implement every week.

Then just bang them out one at a time and track progress on them all.

This is something that a lot of people have a problem with. But the reality is this: Until the pain of where you are now is GREATER than the PERCEIVED pain of where you want to go, you will never change.

It all boils down to having a "burning desire".

Read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill -- it's all in there.

I couldn't put it better myself. I have in the past been in some terrible financial positions and really had no choice but to take the plunge. Even now, every time I take a few steps forward I pile the pressure on myself to keep moving forward, even if I am not 100% comfortable in doing so. Let yourself make mistakes and learn from them. Don't think you must have all the answers before you take the next step.

Motivation can be difficult when you are starting. For me it was always quite easy because I never wanted to have a job where I was accountable to someone else.

Having to ask somebody if I could go on holiday always kind of niggled me so when I left school I would do anything not to have to get a full time job.

The key to working for yourself is to realise that if you don't work nobody pays you.

The more you work then the more money you will make! Do you want to make money from your blog more than you want to be accountable to a boss?

You need to do some seo mate. Build up backlinks, write guest articles in blogs, write comments in blogs and try to build connections with fellow bloggers, use social marketing like Twitter and Facebook.
If you can not or do not want to do this, you can outsource it. But you need to do something to drive traffic to your website.

One of the best ways to get free traffic, young man, is to start contributing to a bunch of related forums. You've already got practice by contributing here, so spread your wings. And please make sure you give people a reason to recommend your blog to others. (They'll spread your links to the forums that they contribute to).

As of now (and if your blog is the one in your signature), you don't have enough engaging content to get people talking about your site. So it looks like you've two things to do: 1. Participate on a butt load of forums, and 2. Improve your blog by adding some interesting stuff.

Your motivation should be to succeed at having a highly trafficked site. Period. You need nothing else. Until you have that, other bloggers will squash yours until it's out of sight.

I remember when I first started my blog. I waited months to put up a product review because I was nervous and thought it wouldn't come out right -- even though I had written stuff on free sites and made sales, so I knew my stuff converted. Thinking back, I guess it was because a blog is more permanent. You're kind of putting yourself out there. The only things I know to tell you are to be yourself, and be legit, honest. If something sucks, tell them why and recommend something better.

When you start out on the right foot, it's a lot easier to be confident about the stuff you put out. People respond to realness and get tired of all the hype and lies -- especially once they've been scammed once or twice. Beyond that, you just have to push forward and do it. Once you get the first few pages down, it becomes routine -- in a good way. You will see your blog gradually transform. It will become second nature. Oh, I also want to make sure to mention unique, quality content. You have your own voice -- even if you don't realize it.

Oh, keep your comments open. The search engines like that, too. When people make real comments on your reviews that are in line with what you've written, it just makes you seem more trustworthy. You'll still have to monitor your comments for spam and what not, though. When people leave comments, they should be directly related to what it is that you have written.

When it comes to what actually drives me, I like being in control of my own financial future. I like the fact that I'm building something that gains equity and can be sold for money. I also like helping people. I like being able to answer people's questions and being seen as an authority. I like having knowlege and skills that I can use to make real money that most people don't. It's like being in a secret club. It adds a little pep to your step...ha, ha, ha. Your family and friends might joke with you about it at first, but they will shut up and be in line with their hands out when the money starts coming in...ha, ha, ha.

Finally, if the thing that's making you unsure is a lack of training or the fact that you feel you need a bit of coaching, you might want to check out Unstoppable Affiliate by Andrew Hansen and Josh Stanton. Even though the main course is all you need, they also offer an optional 8-week coaching program.

    Yours in online profits,
    Joey

      Oswald,

See what's in my signature area? It's true. It's just another way of saying what others here have already said.

Thing is, you have to be inspired and motivated above and beyond what any of us tell you. Yes, there's a place for inspiration, a cheering crowd, a Hallmark movie, encouraging family members, or any number of honest, good sources of motivation and inspiration. In the end, though, you still have to move past the emotion of the moment and do what needs to be done.

Start by being confident that you can do what it is that needs to get done. Everyone loves to see confidence, but it's been shown (and my own life proves it) that women in particular love confidence in a man. Not so much cockiness, but the self-realization that you are capable and you will make it happen. Nothing discourages my wife more than when in the past I did not seem to have much hope. On the other hand, my confidence inspires her to believe in me more, which motivates me further. It's a lovely cycle. What you think, you believe. What you believe, you do. Thoughts, beliefs, and actions must rise above the feelings that would betray you.

Understand that long-term motivation/inspiration/success is not built on the emotion of the moment. Like an athlete pushing through the physical pain of the event, you have to push through bad feelings, others pushing against you, hard circumstances, and all that.

Push through and persevere. Nobody became a success by saying they "can't." They just simply learned how to do.

Oswald, dont give up! One thing that I found helped out drastically(and still does) is making a list of things "to do". I usually write it on a whiteboard that hangs on the wall in front of me. But ensure that your "to do" list isnt just busy work. Make sure the list is productive in attaining your goals. Rank them in priority! Good luck my friend, I know you will succeed if you apply yourself!

Haha, great stuff Big Mike. Just hang in there Oswald. One of my keys is to have at least 3 things to accomplish in the morning that will get you in motion. These can be anything from Writing to posting here to Adding Twitter Followers. That is easy to do and once in motion everyday, you will at least do something. This will build into real profitable action.

      Hope this helps or inspires

    Hi Oswald,

I feel you man. I'm also a newbie and yup, I face the exact same problem. It's a pain to sit in front of your computer and do IM, right after a hard day of work.

The strategy that I'm using to get over this problem, is finding people (real life people, not people you meet on the internet) who share the same interest in internet marketing. That gives me motivation, and makes it a hell lot more fun...

    Cheers and Merry Xmas!

The number one tip I can give you for taking action is to get an accountability partner. I use an accountability partner, and it helps me to make and reach my daily goals. With an accountability partner, you will take action because you will not want to look lazy or pathetic in the eyes of your accountability partner.

Saw a great video by Randy Gage, mlm guru. Basically the idea was to be successful you have to give absolutely everything! I think you need to back up and think about why you're doing what you're doing. Unless you have an absolute burning desire, this isn't going to happen.

From the enormous response that this thread has had you can tell that this is common and that it CAN be over come.
It will take some time though.

You can go about it various ways.

Easy way number one PPC traffic for a beginner not very viable. It requires a lot of money.

Easy way number two buy a few SEO software programs or subscribe to SEO services for your site ( not very cost effective if you only have on site to promote).

easy way number three go to the warrior for hire section and purchase SEO services for your blog from another warrior.

or the hard way(free or very little cost but requires lots of time)

what the OP said post on related niche forums and include a link to your site in the signature.
guest blogging simply contact another blogger in the same niche and ask if you can guest blog. write some good content for this as it will send a lot of targeted traffic to you.
    or
    Build a link wheel
or make some you tube videos.
    manual backlinking
    article marketing
    etc.
DON'T buy traffic or backlinks from fiverr its not worth it ( not targeted or not real or will get you sandboxed or deindexed)

I hope you can look into the bove methods and report back on what worked for you and what the other warriors advice you followed in future posts.

It is critical to have a strong understanding of who your target audience is and a clear vision for where you are going.

When you have these, the next steps are easier to come up with.

An Internet marketing coach or mentor will also help.

    Great little thread.

We can all empathize. I think for most of us, our problem is a lack of focus. We suffer from BSOS. Bright Shiny Object Syndrome. Buy just one product or whatever... then stick with it until you've worked it enough to know whether or not it's a fit for you. Refuse to move to something new (and always better, of course) until you've at least applied what you've learned from your first bought product.

If it's just a matter of motivation (not focus), then just set a goal and get an accountability partner as was suggested. In fact, let's do it now... tell us in this thread what you will accomplish by the end of tomorrow, and by the end of next week. Tell us what your first (small and reachable goal) is and what your short term and long term goal is.

Successful businesses usually have a well defined business plan. Do you? If not, start there! :-)

    Hope this helps.

Don't give up and keep marketing. 3 months from now, you'll probably amaze yourself with all the marketing that you've been doing. And when the sales and new customers start coming in on a daily basis... this will be all the motivation you need to keep going. Whenever i see a sale in my inbox... i get an adrenaline rush lol. Stay focus on the goal, and make sure you get lots of traffic to your site. Work on this everyday.
