My take is that we live in the greatest country in the world. What makes us so great is the fact that we have freedom of speech. Sometimes, those freedoms create a byproduct of crimes. There are already laws against these things. Taking away an ounce of freedom in the name of protection has always been something that I have stood against.

I am in no way saying that piracy, copyright infringement, and even defamation should be protected. Each of these things can be taken care of on a case by case basis, either by the victims in court or by the government by indictments (when called for).

The actions mentioned above are already against the law. We do not need new laws that take away our freedom in the name of protection.

That's a great video, thanks for the share.

Although I am all for stopping illegal sharing of the material we work so hard to create this doesn't seem to be the way to do it. Other than putting Justin Bieber in jail I can't see anything good coming of this.

    NameCheap seems to agree:

Namecheap Blog » We say NO to #SOPA (our official stance)

And just today GoDaddy, who previously supported SOPA, changed their tune as well:

It will be very interesting to see what happens in the upcoming weeks.

What a surprise. GoDaddy backs off after an extreme amount of negative press. I'm not quite sure why they supported it in the first place.

You will have people who do not understand something in the position of complete control over it....... Oh wait, we have that already.

Seriously, the potential for both misuse and unintended consequences could spell serious trouble.

At least we can do some things right.

How does this affect me being in the UK?

According to the articles/videos/etc, basically it means if your site was determined to be in violation of some sort of priniciples/guidelines, it could become invisible to 'usa' customers.

So if you had customers in the us, you would no longer have them.

I predict a mass-exodus from registrars and mass-boycotting of companies/retailers that support SOPA ... Maybe not, but one can only hope people put their actions/money where their mouths/hearts are. Time to do the right thing!

I knew this bill was like inviting Freddy Kruger, to baby set your child, but the Videos above are incredible, Amazing, and this is the kind of garbage we have going on in the US, be afraid, if this passes, be very afraid because the Internet as you know it right now is about to end.

Unless you take action, I have called my congressman, I have called my Senators, and I have expressed my opinion about how damaging SOPA would be to the Internet.

If you live in the US, let your congressional representative, know how you feel, because this may be the last chance you get to do that.

    Lamar Smith R Texas

Congressman Lamar Smith | 21st District of Texas

If you live in Texas, Vote this Cat out of office, donate to anyone that will run against him in the next election, we do not need people like this in congress.

I am sick and tired of all the Crap, that these people are trying to pass pretending to represent the people while being bought and sold like poker chips at a Vegas strip club,

(no offense to those fine establishments)

Apparently these clowns we have up there think that we are just too stupid to read, but you know what we can Vote, yes, we can, we can vote them out of office and if you live in the US you better take action or the freedom you have to go online may soon go away.

    Take action,

I'm not quite sure if I've got this right, but is this a way of introducing through the backdoor something like being able to stop all US web surfers from weeing things like the Wikileaks stuff if someone decides it 'goes against some guideline' or something. Is this not a potential way for the gov't/politcial class to potentially keep their 'dirty laundry' off the web and control somewhat the content that is put up. China Iran anyone? Not quite to that extent, but on the way maybe?

Please correct me if I'm wrong as I have not really been following it being in UK.
