.co.cc .co.nr .tk...Are Free Domain Names Worth ss Little as They Cost.

OK, common sense says that these are probably worthless, but I'd be interested in hearing your opinions on them and experiences with them?

Thanks, all.

The common public is used to seeing .com, .net, and .org. If your target market is that of the common public, then stick with those. It really depends on your target demographic and the image you want your website to be portrayed. I have seen a ton of "watch this movie online" with .cc and .co domain. They dont really care as most of their traffic comes from word of mouth and not necessarily from the serps.

Maybe if you get more specific with your question as to what the domain will be used for, we can offer more specific help

I would not bother with them although the other night I saw an ad for a .tk site on TV. Go figure.

Yeah, as a landing page not requiring SEO at all, you can go with it. But it's not recommended.

Free domains are hard to rank for and are less appealing, so are cheaper domain types; a .info < .com, especially if you are trying to sell someone something, with that said, youtube-views.info is one of the top ranked sites ever for YouTube promotions, it also has a pretty simple design, so it is the exception of two rules, however it is also an example that it can be done.

Actually if your using a blogger domain, I have seen those rank pretty quickly. It is free, but not ideal.

Wow, I had no idea that G was deindexing the .co.cc. Looking at the article, it also says

Instead it’s the domain name of a private company located in Korea, and that is why Google considered it a free hosting provider and blocked it completely.
So, could I construe that any and all free-hosted domains will be removed?

Also, looking at Google's bias here, I'm sure that non-tld domain names are (or will soon be) probably harder to rank.
