Warriors - how do you divide up your day?

Hey Warriors,

As someone whose experienced at content and copywriting but completely new when it comes to IM how do you divide up your day?

Do you spend so many hours doing one task and then another - is it driven by discipline, or do you just do what you have to as you go along?

Just trying to get some pointers on the most effective way to tackle IM.

    I am new here to IM, but I learned this after working on tech projects for a while...

    I have a spreadsheet which I keep called 'mission control' and in that I will have different worksheets to capture data such as backlinked url's, usernames and passwords of sites (I encrypt the file for those about to jump me), code dumps (so if I change a bit of php, I put it in there in case I want to use it again). I have run down of my accounting (domains, hosting costs etc) which I use SUM to weigh against profits (which are currently zero!).

    I also have a 'todo' list in which I put all the little bits I need to do, such as things like:

    Fix crawl errors (use .htaccess file).
    Blog on 'xyz'
    Find wordpress plugin for xyz
    Research a better font for X

    Against these I put a drop down validation list with 'Pending | Complete'

    I then try get myself to work through that list. If I don't focus on a set of tasks I can quite easily get sidetracked by all the bells and whistles that the internet brings us.

    There are other tools which I am sure do this better, but excel works well for me as I can hack and develop vb objects and all manor of stuff to get it to do what I want

    I use Action Manage 2.0 (free in the War Room). It's worked wonders for helping me focus on one task at a time AND for limiting my time spent on certain tasks. I always start out spending 30 minutes creating an action list. Then, I break that list into main goals and arrange the main goals within the timer slots. I never spend more than 30 minutes on any task, using the time between tasks to relax..stretch..eat..spend time with family...whatever. That way I never get overloaded.

    Hey there!

    When I'm starting my day, I always try to keep one thing in mind:

    Stay positive throughout the day, no matter what. This helps me enjoy my time when I'm working and avoid possible frustration. It also makes me work more effectively and be more productive.

    Before I go to bed, I always write down the things I need do the following day. I usually jot down about 20-30 things as they occur to me, in no particular order, and mark them with a letter, A-E, by importance, A being the most important. I save this file as a PDF and the next day I open it and try my best to complete all the tasks. Logically, I start with the ones that are marked "A".

    This strategy helps me stay organized. Also, if I'm starting to feel frustrated, I immediately stop what I'm doing at the moment and give myself a 10 minute break to clear out my thoughts. This helps me avoid frustration and stay positive!

      I don't do IM full time, so I don't have a ton of structure. I outsource a lot, so most of my time is spent managing that team.

      I do use this pretty handy little site though. Do It (Tomorrow)

      I think it's the best list maker out there.

      Lukedidit - you're a spreadsheet nut like me Love it.

      I tend to spend the first half an hour of my day checking emails, twitter, forums etc (I know I'm on WF now but I've technically take the day off - too many late nights)

      I'm more productive at writing in the mornings so I generally do so. In the afternoons I spend my time backlinking (set myself a task of building 10 - 20 backlinks a day), and doing other things; website fixes, keyword and product research, strategic planning etc. At the weekends I spend just a couple of hours on things like backlinking and reading around IM.

      Can't live without a daily todo list. And also my productivity spreadsheet so I can assess the progress made each day and to give me a kick if I've been lazy.

    Firstly I have a separate room in my house which I use just for work, this gives me the option to escape from work.

    In My "office" I have a huge whiteboard which is split up into 3 sections, one section is for current stuff the 3rd column is split into current projects so if I am building a site then its split into sections :-)

    In the 3rd column I have sites I have to SEO and what "desired rankings I need

    But staying positive and focused is still very important

    Your question must be seen from the context of whether you do IM on a full or part-time basis. At present, I am part-time so essentially spend about 2 hours when I get home during the week, and another 30 minutes in the morning, just to see what replies I had to engagements of the previous day. For me this is very important, in view of the different time zones, and because IM is a 24 hour activity.

    Beyond the above, I am also trying to project plan and stick to a 3-tier activity schedule of;

    a) Must complete today
    b) Need to make steady progress
    c) Can wait for a while

    The underlying fact is that you must a planning system of some sort in place.

    I have a clock chime thingee that every hour goes BOING! and at that time, I take off 5 minutes to stand up, stretch, bike, karate kick, ie, do something/anything to get me moving (as sitting for 922 hours at a stretch really isn't good for you).

    I'm also teaching myself to do a post or two at that time as well, but do have to work more on the discipline....

    I plan for the month, then break into weeks, and the weeks into days. Every day I will have to do list.

    Ideally, I divide the day into 3 parts - morning, afternoon and evening - for 3 different tasks namely, administration and planning, product creation, marketing.

    Every day I focus on different income streams.
