The general porn niche (if you can call it a niche) is not hard to get traffic in, but it is hard to make money with since so much content is free

The money is made using sites that are very specific sub-niches of the overall adult industry.

Highly competitive and you'd be competing with some very big players. The porn industry has also suffered from illegal sharing of their videos, so it takes a lot more creativity to make sales.

    Just my thoughts:

Porn industry is a very HUGE industry with MEDIUM level competition because everyone loves to watch PORN(Dont count me, I beleive In practical lol) but very less people make their own porn website....

People love to watch videos rather then reading on blogs. They prefer ACTION not THEARY's lol

So, I would say go for it and register a .xxx domain

    Regards

Whoa whoa, tons of different answers here. Well I work in adult technically, I do affiliate work for certain sites and yes it is tough to make money especially when tube sites are dishing it out for free. If your content is unique and you market it right then you can make some money, I met a guy who actually produces his own content and do you know what he does? He makes a few thousand a month filming girls "Popping balloons naked"...thats it, now Im not saying you should start filming your own stuff but if you really wanna get into the industry then start off by doing affiliate work and learn how to build traffic. Its way different then mainstream stuff.

I would say go for a blog. I visit them on a regular basis. :-) One thing to keep in mind, though, is that even though you can make recurring commissions, you don't actually make a lot per sale since the average monthly payment ranges from like $19 to $24.95. Also, even though it's digital, the affiliate commission percentage that you earn isn't that high. The highest I've ever seen is 50%, but lots of times, it's much lower. If I were going to go into porn, it wouldn't be my primary focus. I'd have another income stream.

I have to agree with the fact that this is a tough market to get into if you are thinking of getting a website. There's countless out there paid and free. A blog is not going to get you much of a benefit unless it can lead to something specific, like learning something new (Kama Sutra Advanced?). As was written before, reading about it is not much of a demand or exciting as it would be to compared to actually watching. Sex sells! but in these times you have to be specialized in a certain area (sub-niche) if you will, to stand out and make a profit. This is actually closely related to my niche in the natural male and female enhancement industry. Might be something for me to look into in the near future. Maybe start a blog that links to purchasing enhancement products that make the user enjoy sex better. hmmmm....

Porn Website or Blog - swatz89

Whenever a PORN thread is started on the Warrior Forum I am always fascinated by the answers given and they usually go like this.

"It's a huge market but too competitive."

"Free tube sites have killed the industry. Why would anyone pay for porn lol"

"yeah thats true. also i had read that u might be prosecuted if they found u sharing porn stuff. cheers."

Prosecuted ?? I'm amusing we are all adults here and live in a free society.

Yes the mainstream porn industry of DVD sales and membership websites has been negatively affected by the free tube sites but do you think that porn is just going to roll over a die?

    These are the facts:

US adults who regularly visit Internet pornography websites - 40 million

Women accessing adult websites each month - 9.4 million

Every second - 28,258 Internet users are viewing pornography

Every second - $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography

Statistics show that approximately 90% of men and 65% of women masturbate from time to time.

Those are old statistics from 2006 but you they are still relevant if not increasing.

The online pornography industry is going through a transition right now, but with new technology like interactive streaming webcam video and 3D .... believe me online porn it about to explode into a new era of virtual reality and creativity ... it was bound to happen eventually.

There is just too much money involved.

I don't want to get into a moral argument about online pornography from a marketers perspective but here are some links from my research about the industry you might find interesting:

      Agree.

I am not in porn, but I have an adult related website that makes some pretty decent money.

Some people I know have taken issue with that, but I am simply serving a need with a service.

That industry is really tough, more so in the pure porn. But if you do it well, you can bank large.

I seriously don't believe that a single blog in that industry would be worth anything at all.

One would need to offer much much more value to even make a dent.

I'm actually with you at the moment as to whether I should start a porn website or blog.

A blog that does affiliate jobs, or website that runs a tube?

After reading all the comments, I think fighting with those big porn companies is going to be a real tough work.

So I guess, drive traffics to a blog and do some affiliate? might be a good idea!

I would never discourage anyone from pursuing a market with such eager buyers and I just love how the mere mention of porn can cause some people to flee to the moral high ground. However the very taboo nature of porn is the reason why there is so much money in it.

    But it ain't easy

A simple adult blog is easy to set up but tough to monetize because of the free tubes . However if you're creative there is still quite a bit of money to be made. But you must adapt the usual IM models to fit.

First you have to thin slice micro niche more so than normally. Just naked people isn't going to cut it. You want to be very specific. This can be anything from erotic stories about group activities to girls who smoke with pantyhose on. You can't just put up the usual girl-girl site and think that's it- folks can get the usual stuff for free.

To make money with adult websites, the small timer has to think outside the box. Literally and figuratively.

The easiest way to monetize is with affiliate programs and the better affiliate programs usually offer a choice between a CPA type model and a revenue share. When you're just starting ALWAYS pick the CPA model as the revenue share will keep you poor until you build up good traffic.

There is very little free traffic but if you spend your dollars wisely, you'll see a nice return. You'll have to buy promotional material. Videos, photos etc. but it's not as pricey as you'd think.
    1. Advertising offline is a great way to generate traffic (i.e. in the back of the local rag where the "massages" are).
    2. Backlinking works the same. Submit your promotional material to tube and review sites with a link back to your site.
    3. You can also purchase banner space on a review site. Choosing a site with good traffic can really boost your traffic. This can get pricey.
    4. Word of mouth is priceless. One "weird" photo with a website's watermark can do more for traffic than any of the above.
    5. SEO is crucial!

You should ask yourself if you really want to look at porn all day.

Also no one pays for porn now days because of youporn and the hundreds youporn clones out there.

You can also torrent any porn vid you want.

It could be tough with this market but I think you can share free porn video in your site and drive some traffic then post ads about sexual problem cure, like premature ejaculation cure or sex drugs like Viagra. As we know, every niche has it own method to be monetize. Hope that helps

From experience I can tell you that producing content is easier money than all the affiliate stuff.

If you have access to lots of models and you have some $$$$ to invest then read on. If not the text below is a waste of time for you.

SOPA will arrive one way or another and then content will be worth much more. Do not listen to anybody who says otherwise, theft of content will never be a sustainable business model. Sure a small fraction of the tech savvy population will find a way around SOPA, but the pirate tube sites will be hit hard right where it hurts: payment processing. This means that sales of memberships will rise where it matters: USA and Europe.

Sure a lot of material is already filmed and is cheap to "tube legally" but nobody will want to watch that old crap. New HD and 3D content will always be in demand and this costs $$$ to produce. You cant air nina hartley vids from the 80-s for ever LOL new content will always be more appealing.

Do not try to compete with the big dogs for normal "niches" (Unless you can produce stunning-award winning scenes) and try to find something truly exotic and original and you will make money pretty easily.

Making money with content is much easier than all the affiliate stuff but then again, somebody who is a master of traffic will probably say the opposite...Just giving you my 2cents

I have owned all types of sites, including some successful adult niche porn sites. Porn is very difficult for several reasons.

1- Traffic is hard to get unless you can set up trades with other sites which will require you to send them back traffic which you probably cannot generate to start.

2- You can buy traffic but it can get expensive and it better be quality traffic or else you are just wasting your time.

3- 2257 Laws are no joke anymore, if you display adult content you better have paperwork of the models on the content you display. If you are an affiliate then that works cause they will provide it but otherwise just taking (or stealing) videos from other sites and putting them on yours would not work plus it would not be ethical.

4- Money is hard to come by on porn sites now days. A few years back you could start a site up and make money right away. Limited competition in those days and affiliates, CPC or CPM networks would pay a lot more than they do now. If you are running a site which requires you to convert sales of memberships, the ratios stink.

5- STIFF competition no pun intended, the big known sites have a huge market share and for a new site to compete it would be difficult.

Those are a few reasons why, there are more but if you are serious about doing it I would suggest looking on Google and finding adult webmasters forum and learning about it first before jumping in.

Would also suggest going with a NICHE as opposed to general porn.

    Just my 2 cents.
